Christina Aguilera & Skrux and Dan Flex

Image
Today I have some music for you that is a remix of a song that I have been unable to get out of my head. This song was originally performed by T.I. and Christina Aguilera, but this remix features just her voice. Skrux and Collin McLoughlin turned this original rap song into a beautifully done melodic dubstep tune. And when I say beautiful, I really do mean it. This song is so wonderfully pieced together and produced. Skrux and Collin  McLoughin  turned this song into a darker, more emotional track, and I love that. Normally, dubstep is devoid of emotion, appealing to being an energetic and hype genre. But this rendition takes a more intense and serious turn, something that makes you remember those harder moments in life. When I hear this song, I actually think of a more futuristic battle scene, when everything is dark and people are fighting. And then the main "hero" looks back and sees everything that is happening, what is really going on around him. Honestly, this video...

Sleepy Tom and Flux Pavilion

Image
Today I have some wicked trap music for you. This song is originally by one of my favorite DJs of all time, Flume. But this trap remix is done by Sleepy Tom, another DJ who likes to hang out of the spotlight, but definitely, deserves to be out in the front. Sleepy Tom is an extremely talented DJ, with a handful of some of the sickest trap beats and melodies that I have heard. He has done a lot of work with other DJ's and does a fantastic job as a featured artist and remixing DJ. Now, what I like about this rendition, is that Sleepy Tom has taken one Flume's more chilled out songs and turned it into something that is ridiculously hype. It can definitely be a struggle to remix songs that have already been so masterfully produced, because DJs don't necessarily want to compromise what the song originally had. Flux Pavilion is a DJ that I would put in that masterful category, but Sleepy Tom also deserves a spot there. He has taken a song that was well crafted and produced and ...

Tritonal & Jonathan Mendelsohn and Julian Jordan

Image
Today I have music for you by Tritonal. This duo has been part of a lot of music buzz and popularity, and this song can tell you why. Tritonal has a very clean style of making music. Many electronic artists don't clean up their songs to make them the best they can be, but Tritonal hits the mark every time. These past few years have seen amazing progress for this duo and a little bit of evolution in their sound. This is their latest single and it has taken a slight turn to the house side of things. This song does have a nice combination of trance and house, but it tends to lean more on house. While this is just a sampling of the song, it has a very complete and round sound to it. We are exposed to the phenomenal vocals provided by Jonathan Mendelsohn. This guy, talk about incredible vocals. It might take a few listens to hear it, but right before the first drop you can hear Jonathan Mendelsohn screaming distantly in the background. And this isn't one of those dubstep crazy screa...

Clark Kent & Oscar Daniel and Clint Mansell

Image
Today I have a really wicked remix of one of my favorite movie songs ever. This song is originally by Adele and was featured in the last Bond movie, Skyfall. Now we all know that movie was absolutely incredible. I mean everything about it was so spectacularly done, from the acting to the plot to the characters, and of course, the Bond theme. This was definitely one of the more intense Bond movies, which is why this remix of the original theme is so dope. It may seem weird, but I  think this remix really takes on a lot of elements that the movie itself had. The initial buildup has this increase in anticipation. Clark Kent and Oscar Daniel have us in their palms of their hands with the suspense that continues to build up until it becomes a drop that screams action sequences. That is the great thing about this remix to me. It has enough dubstep and electronic elements to give it the flair that comes with the genre but also maintains the tone of the original song and movie. This song h...

Raye and Disclosure

Image
Today I have a really smooth song for you by the artist Raye. She is definitely more of an underground artist, but I like that she is able to maintain that low key status for the sake of her music. Because let me tell you, her sound is really good. Raye is that weird transition from being melodic dubstep and R&B. Which is a strange combo, but somehow the two work really well together. When I hear this song, I am not immediately pulled into the R&B mindset, and I am not immediately drawn towards the electronic music ear. It is a nice tug from both ends, telling me that the song is really well balanced between the two. In a way, the feeling I get when I listen to this song is how I feel about a lot of songs by The 1975. They both have that ambient kind of sound, but Raye takes a little bit more of a sensual route. I mean I cannot deny that there is a dash of sexiness in this song, from the way she uses her breathier vocals and R&B style combined with the sl...

CL and Wizard

Image
Today I have some music for you, from one of the baddest bitches in Korean Music. Now this song is probably the most hardcore CL has gone, and there is a part of me that really likes it! I won't lie, as I go through the breakdown of this song you will see where the drawbacks of the song are for me personally. But onwards! This song definitely follows the more hip hop route of music, and goes to that really intense and badass kind of sound. This is the kind of song that you would listen to when walking into a room as if you run the joint. From the beginning we are introduced to this consistent bass hit that punctuates at the beginning of every set of four beats. Which is weirdly precise of me to point out, but I do so because I want you to be able to pick it out when listening to the song. And from there we get the main melody of the song, which is definitely electronic production. This is like a weird mix of hip hop beats and trap intensity, which I am definitely down for. But the ...

Xilent and Wolfgang Gartner

Image
Today I have some music for you that comes from a genre I have not posted about in an entirely too long of a time period. This song is by the Polish DJ who goes by the name Xilent. Now he is known for his dubstep and drum & bass production, which pretty much sums up the sound of this song quite nicely. This song is actually really interestingly done because of the way the song has its energy spread around. The song starts out with a slower and heavier dubstep sound, merging with melodic dubstep to become something that is both lyrical and electronic at the same time. The song brings us that intense and concentrated sound that melodic dubstep produces, but it still remains on the slightly slower feeling end of the spectrum. But then out of nowhere, we get this spark of energy where the beat seems to double time and feel more dynamic. But afterwards, we jump right back into that dubstep sound and pick up where we left off. Now normally, that would be a weird segue to have, but someho...

Magnetic Man and Oblivion

Image
Today I have a pretty eclectic and psychedelic kind of song for you all. This song is  by  the electronic music project known as Magnetic Man. I think the biggest take away with this song is the idea that dubstep and electronic music can  possess  that genuine  heart-wrenching  soul that comes with singers like John Legend. Despite the fact that John Legend is a singer who tends to stick with more contemporary and R&B styles, he is still able to sound and perform like himself with the presence of electronic work all around him. And Magnetic Man makes very good use of their dubstep background to make this a song that is not too heavy on bass or video game sounds. A lot of dubstep these days include that screech and scratch kind of sound, with a little bit of video game sound thrown in, and a ton of "wub." But this song is not like that at all. Magnetic Man makes this song sound really eclectic and almost ethereal. Part of the reason this song sounds so t...

Yogi, Pusha T, & Skrillex and GTA

Image
Today I have some wicked music for you by a multitude of artists. This song is mainly a collaboration between Yogi, Pusha T, and Skirllex, but the other artists featured in the song make this into something that is sick and absolutely hype. We all know Skrillex has the reputation of being quite a hype artist, a musician who can turn music into something that is more fluid and free form, into something robotic and crisp. This is not a bad thing, whatever people may think. For the genre and style of music that Skrillex produces, that crisp and sharp sound is a perfect compliment to the very electronic sound that he has. Skrillex does not try to dim the level of electronic usage in his music, which I definitely can appreciate. In this song we get to hear a lot more of a combination of styles with Skrillex's instrumental work. For a good portion of the song, Skrillex does not employ the use of his signature electronic scratch. In fact, most of this song is focused on heavy hitting beat...

Seven Lions and Mat Zo

Image
Today I have some wickedly amazing electronic music for you. This first song is by an artist that I love so much for many reasons. Seven Lions is an electronic act that never disappoints both with album mixes and live mixing. Seven Lions has this very unique style of music that is very trance like and ambient, but is also something that you would definitely catch yourself dancing too. I know that I cannot help but sing and belt out the lyrics to his songs. Seven Lions never fails to have vocalists that are stunning. I mean pretty much every electronic act has incredible vocalists, but Seven Lions chooses vocalists that seem to be specifically for electronic music. These vocals fit like no other vocals could and it is just incredibly perfect. Tove Lo provides the vocals in this song and they are so powerful and transient. This is one of those songs where the voice is able to take you out of Earth and have you soar around in space, floating about the planets and their colorful rings. Thi...

Sleepy Tom and Flume

But this trap remix is done by Sleepy Tom, another DJ who likes to hang out of the spotlight, but definitely deserves to be out in the front. Sleepy Tom is an extremely talented DJ, with the sickest trap beats and melodies that I have heard. He has done work with the likes of Diplo, and let me tell you, those songs are so damn incredible. What I like about this rendition, is that Sleepy Tom has taken one Flume's more chilled out songs and has turned it into something so ridiculously hype. It can definitely be a struggle to remix songs that have already been so masterfully produced because DJs don't necessarily want to compromise what the song originally had. But Sleepy Tom takes a song that was created and turns it into something that could be considered an original and unique work of musical genius. From the moment the song starts, we get that slow build up into s...

DJ Raaban and Zedd

Image
Back at it again today with some awesome music! I know, my posting has been a little bit shaky lately, but I am definitely doing my best. Today I wanted to share something new and cool and different with you. This song is by a Swedish DJ by the name DJ Raaban. Now he is a lesser known DJ in our stream of music, and honestly, in any stream of music. His music takes us back to the older days of electronic music. It has that European style for sure, emulating sounds that we would find in things like video games and early 00s music videos. This is a style that has been lost to the underground, and hasn't made much of an effort to resurface. Nightcore music is kind of like a happy version of trance. When you listen to this song, it feels like a sped up and more rhythmic version of a song. That is because it is. The vocals are also way higher pitched than the original, maybe under the assumption that it makes the song more bubby or something, which I guess it kind of does. But that high ...

RL Grimes and Disclosure

Image
Today I have some music for you by the DJ RL Grimes. Well actually, this is a remix of a popular song right now, but this song changes the entire sound of the original. This song is originally performed by The Weeknd. This is an artist who is known for his slow jams, and songs that are more along the sensual and seductive side of things. His songs are not necessarily very hype and energetic, which is totally okay! But with this remix, we get something that is the total opposite of that. Now this is no a happy electronic song. This falls closer to melodic dubstep in my opinion, but what I like about the remix RL Grime made is that it is very unique and original in its own way. This remix has a greater intensity to it, a sound that is great for the electronic music world. He doesn't necessarily let go of the sexy nature of the original song, but adding a build up and climax to the song takes away some of the sex appeal that this song has. There are definitely moments when this remix ...

Collin McLoughlin and The 1975

Image
Today I have music for you by the singer known as Collin McLoughlin. So a quick background on this singer, he started out doing covers of different songs and artists. He became pretty YouTube famous, from which he then turned his eye towards bigger things. Auditioned for The Voice, was on Adam's team for a while, and then lost in the battle round. He was then stolen by Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green, and ended up staying in the competition for a while. He was also the first artist to ever be stolen on the show, so that was pretty exciting. Fast forward a little bit and then we get to the song of the day. So Collin McLoughlin is clearly a gifted singer. I mean the guy has seen quite a bit of singing success. But did you know he also produces his own music? Yup, his debut album was completely self produced. The lyrics, composition, performance, and production were all done by Collin McLoughlin. Needless to say, this guy is not only musician goals, but also is a very talented human be...
