Sleepy Tom and Flux Pavilion
Today I have some wicked trap music for you. This song is originally by one of my favorite DJs of all time, Flume. But this trap remix is done by Sleepy Tom, another DJ who likes to hang out of the spotlight, but definitely, deserves to be out in the front.
Sleepy Tom is an extremely talented DJ, with a handful of some of the sickest trap beats and melodies that I have heard. He has done a lot of work with other DJ's and does a fantastic job as a featured artist and remixing DJ. Now, what I like about this rendition, is that Sleepy Tom has taken one Flume's more chilled out songs and turned it into something that is ridiculously hype. It can definitely be a struggle to remix songs that have already been so masterfully produced, because DJs don't necessarily want to compromise what the song originally had. Flux Pavilion is a DJ that I would put in that masterful category, but Sleepy Tom also deserves a spot there. He has taken a song that was well crafted and produced and turns it into something that could be considered an original and unique work of musical genius.
From the moment the song starts, we get that slow build up into something that foreshadows a very energetic and epic drop. Sleepy Tom also adds his own interesting flair, and makes the song more suspenseful in the buildup, dropping into to something that is not bass oriented. That is one of the best parts about this song. A lot of DJs equate a drop with increasing the bass levels, but Sleepy Tom creates a new melody and runs with it. Instead of relying on just the bass drop, he weaves in other sounds and rhythmic patterns. Sleepy Tom tends to stray away from the more video game type sounds that are often found in dubstep. Not only did he take the more melodic route, he opted for trap rather than keeping the song completely dubstep. I personally found this to be a great combination because it allows him to give the song a different and heavier kind of intensity. This song is definitely a good one and is a great interpretation of the original.
Today's instrumental song is the original version of the song, with Flux Pavilion leading the way. It is interesting to compare and contrast the two versions of the song and must acknowledge how vastly different the two sound. Flux Pavilion has a smooth consistency in melody, opting for more repetition than Sleepy Tom. On the flip side, Sleepy Tom experiments a bit more, and you may find that not all drops are to your taste. The great thing about being able to compare the two songs though is that we get to see why we like a certain version over another. I am curious to know what you all think. Which version of the song do you enjoy more? I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
