Ek Villain and Pearl Harbor
Today I have music for you that I find to be quite unique. This is from a Bollywood film and comes from the Indian music industry, yet it sounds like nothing I have ever heard from this film industry. I know that Bollywood is home to thousands of movies and even more songs, but this song is unlike anything I have ever heard from the entire era of Bollywood music. This song is from the movie Ek Villain which is an absolutely phenomenal movie. A lot of Indian films that have come out in the recent few years have kind of sucked, but this film is one of the really good ones. And with a movie like this, you have to have a soundtrack that is equally as interesting and intriguing and spectacular. This song is actually one of my favorites from this movie and for good reason. I guess this breakdown will have to start from the beginning. I love the way this song opens with the gorgeous piano solo to set up the song. This is a darker and sadder song because this movie as a whole is darker. But the piano really adds that depth to the emotions. We are then introduced to the male vocalist who sings so beautifully. He takes on the upper range in the song and when we first hear his voice, all I get is that it is dripping with pain and sadness. The song then goes to a slight bridge which features some synth chords to provide the background sound. I find it to be so beautiful and moving because it has this slight throb to it along with some slight choral work. And then the female vocals come in and complete this song in such a spectacular way. She takes on the lower ranges and octave of the song, but sings it with this gentle power that will give you chills. Her voice has a wonderful tone to it and she sings it with this feeling of longing and reminiscing. The bass then comes to support everything we get and eventually builds. But this song uses only drums to build this song to the climax and then the song drops. Now this drop is really cool because it maintains that slow beat and layers some faster moving pieces. The song continues on and we get a nice Indian sitar flair which is followed by more vocalizing by the female singer. When the male voice is brought back in it just sounds so phenomenal. We get hits of the acoustic guitar for a verse and then this intense and heavy electric guitar. The song then slows down with some chimes in the background and vocal exchanges between the male and female. This song just has this intensity that fluctuates between highs and lows, like the volatile relationship in the song. I am so in love with everything this song has to offer and there really are no words to describe how this song sounds and makes me feel. It is one thing to describe what is happening in the song and another to experience it yourself. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Pearl Harbor. This was also a good movie in my opinion but I think I prefer Ek Villain. However, the soundtrack for this movie is just amazing. I can never go wrong with how powerfully emotional this song and score is. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
