Keeping It Fresh

Today I have some really fun music for you! This song is originally by Coldplay, and was the first single to be dropped from their newest album. But, the catch with this song is that this is a remixed version of the song, and is done by Audien. Now if there is anything to be said about Audien, is that he knows how to make crowd jumping music. I mean this song had me wanting to bounce around and go crazy and jump and dance. This song was already a pretty inspirational and freeing song, but Audien turned it into a spectacular menagerie of color and sound. The thing is, when I listen to this song, I see so many bursts of color and paint and these fantastical frames of doing all the things that make me really feel alive. Which was the original point of the song, and something that Audien preserves so well with this remix. Whether it makes me think about splashing around and running wild on the beach at night, or going crazy at a festival, or dancing the night away in a concert hall with th...

Today I have some really great music for you from some phenomenal movies. This first song comes from the movie Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. This movie was an absolutely beautiful movie for many reasons. First of all, the entire movie is all about the human experience, and what it means to be a human. The movie starts out with the day to day job that most of us have. It begins with the story of a man and woman who work office jobs, behind a desk, only to come home to a lonely existence. But as the movie progresses, the characters evolve, learning more about themselves and learning that there is so much to offer the world and that there is even more to receive. Even when things go wrong, or the unexpected arises, we have to look forward and keep our spirits high. Because at the end of the day, there is nothing more spectacular and wonderful than our own ability to believe. This is where the song of the day comes in. This song is the most perfect auditory description of this feeling. It i...

Today I have some chill and calming music for you. This song is by Opia, a duo out of the United States. Now this is a duo who has recently started making their way to the forefront. This is the first debut single from the R&B duo, and I have to say it is quite impressive. They show a mastery over the electronic and alternative side of R&B, and that is something that does not come easy. This song has really nice smooth and silky sounds, giving the song a completely relaxed and chilled out vibe. There is no sense of urgency or excessive energy. If anything, this song carries a little bit of a sensual vibe to it, and I am such a fan of that. This is a duo that shows us immense talent through this song. As a debut single, a lot rides on the way that the song goes over with the masses. And I have to say, I think this song has gone over extremely well. This song has a nice funk to it, one that lives in the mix of R&B and electronic music. There are some elements of the blues in ...

Today I have some music for you by a DJ that is quite the versatile one. DJ Snake is most known for his radio songs, the ones that are extremely hype and are used in any party situation. I mean the number of times I have been told to "turn down for what" is absolutely insane. But that energetic and wild sound is not something that DJ Snake is only a master of. He is a talented and very low key artist. When you hear the more popular songs by DJ Snake, we get those hyper and crazy songs, the kind of songs that get you ready to have a night you won't forget or rather, a night that you will forget. But the more underground sound that DJ Snake has is what I prefer in his repertoire of songs. His music can be very underrated and hidden in the shadows of his radio singles. But songs like this one, they actually have a lot more creative energy and wonder to them. It is more than just a repeated refrain, but has a character and movement and flow to it that makes the song come to l...

Today I have some really great music for you out of France! I am so excited to share this song with you for a few reasons. One, it is a great song. Two, this is a style of music that is highly underrated and honestly not very well known. Three, the artist Disiz is one that is very interesting and has a lot to say about life and society and politics. Four, it is a very catchy song. So let's get started with the breakdown, shall we? So to start off, Disiz is a rapper out of Evry, France. And I love the fact that almost all of his music is rapped in French, because that is something that is not only really awesome sounding, but it also adds a lot more flavor and personality to the song. French is a great language in general to rap in because of this inherent gruffness to the way they speak. A lot of the pronunciations come from the throat, and that gives the song a lot more edge. Disiz has a lot of flair with his rapping as well, and that is something I can really appreciate and enjoy...

Today was the day we celebrated the Grammys! For those of you who don't know, the Grammys is an award show in which the best and brightest of music in the past year, are honored on you behalf. This first Grammy winning artist is  a very interesting one because he likes to speak about politics. Kendrick Lamar is someone who is genuinely in it for the music. However, he also loves to point out social injustices and wrongdoings. By doing this kind of work and having that time to breathe, it is not easy having to wake up and get to work even though the last night was crazy. Now Kendrick Lamar is one of those rare artists who writes very controversial lyrics on controversial topics. Because we as a society have not done much in terms of making change and speaking out, Kendrick Lamar started with him being able to create this sense of well being. Each one of Kendrick Lamar's sounds has a sound of 100 men taking charge of the situation it is believe in. Every word chosen, every rhyme ...
