Kendrick Lamar and Birdman

Today was the day we celebrated the Grammys! For those of you who don't know, the Grammys is an award show in which the best and brightest of music in the past year, are honored on you behalf. This first Grammy winning artist is  a very interesting one because he likes to speak about politics. Kendrick Lamar is someone who is genuinely in it for the music. However, he also loves to point out social injustices and wrongdoings. By doing this kind of work and having that time to breathe, it is not easy having to wake up and get to work even though the last night was crazy. Now Kendrick Lamar is one of those rare artists who writes very controversial lyrics on controversial topics. Because we as a society have not done much in terms of making change and speaking out, Kendrick Lamar started with him being able to create this sense of well being. Each one of Kendrick Lamar's sounds has a sound of 100 men taking charge of the situation it is believe in. Every word chosen, every rhyme made. They are all inspirations and carefully picked sounds because of the power words have. Kendrick Lamar is someone who knows how to create language and be able to test it. He can create his own rhymes and rhythms effortlessly, and has written nothing short of a stroke of genius. Sometimes it feels like he walks the line between madness and genius, but he is headed in the right direction. Kendrick Lamar's music is something generations will look back on and see how right he was, how he figured out all the puzzles and made symbol against humanity, showing that there is more to us than what we see. Kendrick Lamar is a little bit cold shouldered, but then again, it takes a sense of loneliness and isolation to really let those darker emotions out. But anyway, this is the song of the day! Today's instrumental song is a Grammy winning score, from the movie Birdman. I have not seen the movie, but everyone keeps talking about it, so I may have to stop. I am glad you got to meet Dom and  I am equally as happy that we listened to some movie scores. This is a wonderful score actually, and I know that you will be romantic but harsh and brittle. Today's song is a really cool one out of South Africa by the band Kongos. There are so many awesome things happening in this song. For example the first sounds you hear is this really sick accordion work, and yes, these guys made the accordion look even cooler than any other musician out there has. I love the way they use the accordion and the tone of it. And then you hit the chorus which has these really strong vocals and you get the feel from the multiple voices with these sweet guitar licks and such a loud presence with the electric guitar. This song just kicks some major ass! Today's song is by the Beastie Boys, and is one of my favorite songs by them. Ima Robot and Tame Impala

Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time.

Zayn Malik and Interstellar

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side.
