DJ Snake and The Chainsmokers
Today I have some music for you by a DJ that is quite the versatile one. DJ Snake is most known for his radio songs, the ones that are extremely hype and are used in any party situation. I mean the number of times I have been told to "turn down for what" is absolutely insane. But that energetic and wild sound is not something that DJ Snake is only a master of. He is a talented and very low key artist. When you hear the more popular songs by DJ Snake, we get those hyper and crazy songs, the kind of songs that get you ready to have a night you won't forget or rather, a night that you will forget. But the more underground sound that DJ Snake has is what I prefer in his repertoire of songs. His music can be very underrated and hidden in the shadows of his radio singles. But songs like this one, they actually have a lot more creative energy and wonder to them. It is more than just a repeated refrain, but has a character and movement and flow to it that makes the song come to life. This is a really nice melodic anthem, one that features the vocals of Bipolar Sunshine. Now for those of you who don't know, Bipolar Sunshine is probably one of the most underground acoustic and blues and folk artists I know. Bipolar Sunshine has this really cool mix of having a soft coffeehouse jam while also having a really smooth R&B twist to it. Now DJ Snake uses this really cool method that some other DJs are getting a knack for, and I think Diplo and Skrillex were the first to actually pioneer this tactic. What DJ Snake does is take vocal samples of Bipolar Sunshine, and raises the pitch and distorting it so that we get that really interesting sound byte during the chorus. I think you will be able to recognize what that sound is, because it is similar to what we hear in Diplo and Skrillex's work with Justin Bieber. But that technique is really awesome because it allows for this unique sound to be created using the vocals of the singer, not a programmed synth sound. That gives the song a more humanized feeling especially since the whole point of electronic music is to use the technology provided by the music world. This song starts out with a really nice and soft percussion, with the accompaniment of the soulful vocals of Bipolar Sunshine. The song also has a balance of 808s and snare drum work to add more flavor to the song, but also to keep it from overpowering. This is a really nice chilled out song, especially when you compare it to some of DJ Snake's other work. But that shimmering percussion and calming synth work make this song a really nice sunny song. There are a lot of summery vibes with this song, a nice evening in the summer when everything kind of settles down. This song is really just blissful and sublime. I just love how the song features so many different sounds, from that softer percussion to the cowbell dings to the slightly tropical sound during the chorus. I found that to be very interesting because DJ Snake generally doesn't have a hand in tropical music, but more trap and house related sounds. But he does throw in a little of that tropical sound and I found it to be quite the game changer. This is such a groovy song that definitely has me wanting to get up and dance a little bit. DJ Snake has definitely done a great job by making this kind of music, the more relaxed and tranquil side of electronic music. Today's instrumental song is by The Chainsmokers. Now here is a duo that shot up out of nowhere! I personally have know about them for a while. But when i asked if they know any of their music, they stumble and fall sometimes. I am a fan of this song, even though it did get extremely popular. But The Chainsmokers have really made a great song with this one. It is not only catchy, but is also outside their comfort zones. We get more creative when faced with a problem like that, so it is equally fair to say that getting out of the comfort zone was a great choice for The Chainsmokers. They love touring and love Austin. Just waiting fro them to come back! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to commetn!
