Kanye West and Soik

Image
Today's first song is by an artist who knows how to take his music to the top of the charts. Not only is he incredible at rapping, but his absolute creativity in song production is simply genius. Of all the arrogant artists out there, this guy is one of the minuscule proportion of artists who has music to support his personality. Kanye West is one of the greatest artists to come since the inception of hip hop. He is a man who lives, breathes, and is rap and hip hop. This song is still so fresh and is a genre of its own I think. Kanye West is one of the only artists to create rap music like this, and has been able to popularize it. This song is unlike most R&B and rap songs, especially due to the style of the song. This entire album by Kanye West is very cool and suaveD and is what I kind of think is like hip hop new wave. It is not common for rappers to rely on synths and keyboards this heavily in their music. But this song makes great use of old school drum effects and some si...

White Lies and Explosions In The Sky

Image
Today's song is by a band called White Lies. The tune of this song is brilliant! I really love the heavy bass guitar use. This song has a solid drum line and the guitar line harmonizes with the vocals really well. The singer has a deep voice that kind of reminds me of Marilyn Manson. I absolutely love how the song's tone doesn't match the lyrics. I wouldn't have expected the chorus to be set to the music that it has been set to, but I think the White Lies did a fantastic job of meshing the two. Today's instrumental song of the day is definitely more mellow than the White Lies, but I found it a little while ago and really wanted to post  it on here. This song is by a Texan rock group called Explosions in the Sky, which in my opinion, is a pretty sweet name. Explosions in the Sky is one of the very few instrumental rock bands out there. There have been instrumental covers done of songs, but everything Explosions in the Sky does is original. I find that extremely impre...

Florence + the Machine and Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince

Image
Today I have brand new music for you by one of the greatest female singers of our generation. Florence and The Machine have been on hiatus for a while, but now, this mystifying band is back with music that is just as beautiful and moving as their past albums. This song is the latest single to be released and it has that essence of Florence and The Machine which we all love to hear when we are in our darker states of mind and being. Florence Welch has a voice that knows how to pierce our souls in a way that very few artists can. Florence Welch is also a singer who can belt out notes and has this grandiose sound to compliment her elegance. But with this song, we get something that is more reserved and haunting and simply enchanting. There is a vulnerability and deep emotion that runs through the veins of this song. This is a song where Florence Welch pours out the hidden depths of her feelings and thoughts. I love the content matter of this song, and especially the references to the Patr...

Major Lazer and Tove Lo

Image
Today I have the latest song dropped by Major Lazer. This song is so unlike most of Major Lazer's music, and I totally dig it. Not that Major Lazer's previous work was bad or anything. In fact, I love pretty much everything by them! But this song is pretty out of scope for them and I love the fact that Major Lazer was able to pull off a song like this with so much ease and clarity and honest to goodness amazing sounds. There are moments in other Major Lazer songs that are similar to this one, but there is more experimentaion here and we can really hear that.  This song takes up influence from the tropical house side a little, but tends to delve more into the deep house side of things. There are some clear instances of a reggae beat and reggae melody, but a lot of this reminds me a bit of Kygo. But the thing is, this song has elements that are very Major Lazer related. The drop is very much like normal Major Lazer and the use of that reggae sound is one of the defining character...

Nat King Cole & Natalie King Cole and Eat, Pray, Love

Image
Today I have some slower music for you, from the world of divine class and swoon worthy vocals. Nat King Cole is one of the greatest swing and jazz singers of all time. His daughter Natalie Cole is equally as spellbinding and captivating. The thing about Nat King Cole's music is that it is incredibly enchanting. His voice is so rich and smooth, with a beautiful touch of gentleness. Nat King Cole's music is that which captures the essence of what a true gentleman is supposed to be like. I know that is a little bit strange of me to say, but as someone who enjoys that older and more romantic era, songs like this are absolutely lovely to me. I can't help but want to listen to these songs under a beautiful moonlit sky, or with the soft glow of fairy tale lights against the dark backdrop of the sky. It is kind of funny because I went to a cafe today that is nestled on the edge of a lake, with beautiful trees around it and the wide expanse of a hill on the horizon. And naturally, ...

Jay Park and Eminem

It has been quite a long while since I have posted anything by a non-English artist, so today, I have some sick Korean music for you.  A lot of people have this preconceived notion of what Korean music sounds like. Normally, people automatically think of the K-pop groups and all the stereotypes that go along with K-pop stars. But, there is a whole other side to Korean music, and this is the kind of music I love. Today, we get into the world of Korean rap. What I love about this side of the spectrum is that things sound so bad ass and a lot of these songs have some sick instrumental backgrounds. These are the kind of Korean artists, and artists in general, that know how to make wicked music with the use of electronic work and bass. Diplo has been known to work with Korean artist that fall into this part of the spectrum, and holy hell it is incredible. So with that knowledge, I think it makes it a little easier to understand where this kind of music comes from. This song in particula...

Keane and Dying Young

Image
Today's song is by a band from England called Keane. This song is one of the greatest and sweetest songs I have heard. Keane is one of those bands that knows how to hit your feelings and make you move with the music. While this isn't a song that dance to, it is one that you can't help but sway to. This is one of those songs that you can really immerse yourself into, which is one of the best things ever. The vocals are very beautiful and has this unique quality to it where it has a very soothing sound with a slight grit to it, but also has this different strength. And of course the accompanying music is just incredible, with great melodies and perfect balance. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Dying Young. I haven't seen the movie, but I did love the score for it! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
