Florence + the Machine and Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince

Today I have brand new music for you by one of the greatest female singers of our generation. Florence and The Machine have been on hiatus for a while, but now, this mystifying band is back with music that is just as beautiful and moving as their past albums. This song is the latest single to be released and it has that essence of Florence and The Machine which we all love to hear when we are in our darker states of mind and being. Florence Welch has a voice that knows how to pierce our souls in a way that very few artists can. Florence Welch is also a singer who can belt out notes and has this grandiose sound to compliment her elegance. But with this song, we get something that is more reserved and haunting and simply enchanting. There is a vulnerability and deep emotion that runs through the veins of this song. This is a song where Florence Welch pours out the hidden depths of her feelings and thoughts. I love the content matter of this song, and especially the references to the Patron Saint of Lost Causes. There is only one other band I now who uses this reference, Anberlin, and both of these musical groups really take the meaning of the Patron Saint seriously. It is kind of amazing to hear how similar the two are in terms of lyrics and even some songs. But I digress a bit. To me, this song feels like an honest expression of grey areas of life. This song is extremely reflective and deeply spiritual. Now normally, I don't post the music videos that go along with the songs, but this music video is brilliant and stunning and heart wrenching. Florence Welch seems to make her own journey through Dante's Divine Comedy and expresses her own interpretation of that journey. It is incredible to be able to create a visual interpretation of a song that is so perfect, so charismatic, to the point where the two seamlessly blend into one. This song is swathed in this lonesome and tender melody, supported by subdued strings and baroque styled accompaniments. I cannot wait for this album to come out because I know it will be something breathtaking. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. This movie is one of my favorite from the entire series, and true to Harry Potter fashion, the score is brilliant. This series is one that never seems to fail my expectations. Now I like this particular composition because it has this air of mystery and suspense, but the simplicity of it makes this piece more intriguing. The use of few instruments creates this wonderful tapestry that describes the secrecy that comes with these particular moments. The composer uses synthesizers to enhance the mournful sound that is the heart of this piece. That mournfulness is such a common theme throughout the movie and score, and I love the fact that we can hear that common thread woven throughout the entire score. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
