Bad Wolves and The Cranberries

Image
Today's song is very interesting one. It isn't often that I talk about heavy metal groups or heavy rock groups in general. While it is common to hear rock bands cover each other, it isn't necessarily common to hear covers done the way that Bad Wolves has covered this iconic song. Bad Wolves created a cover of The Cranberries' most iconic and classic song. And the way they did it is not only an incredible performance but a moving tribute to Dolores O'Riordan who sadly passed away this year. I hadn't heard of Bad Wolves until I heard this cover get released. And I have to admit, I was so humbled and moved by this version of the song. There are quite a few things that are going on in this song, which makes me love it even more. One of the things which makes this song so powerful is that the vocals are incredibly ferocious while displaying and a graceful and emotive sound. Tommy Vext delivers a growling performance about a topic that is sensitive and political an...

ONE OK ROCK & 5 Seconds of Summer and Junkie XL

Image
Hey everyone! I know it's been a while since I last posted. Lots of things going on, some moving around, trying to get some time to write. And I am starting up again with some music for you from Japan. ONE OK ROCK is a rock band (go figure) out of Tokyo, and was recently on tour. Now I only recently started listening to their music, and it took me back to my rock roots. I will say ,ONE OK ROCK tends to take a little bit more of a punk sound with this song, but it really works for them. One of the things I really have to appreciate about ONE OK ROCK, is that each album sounds different. The band is not afraid of trying out new sounds and vibes each time they put out an album, and I respect that both as a listener and as a musician. You can also really tell who has influenced the band. Some albums are almost like an homage to ONE OK ROCK's favorite and most inspiring bands, but they are still able to make each album sound like their own. Now the album which this song comes from...

Breaking Benjamin and X Men: First Class

Image
I feel like it has been such a long time since I have talked about some hardcore rock music. So today I have some heavy rock music for you all. This song just started playing in my head earlier in the evening, and it feels like a nice throwback to the time when rock music was full of this grit and grunge. Breaking Benjamin  I know it was for me, especially because this song definitely seemed to capture my mood for part of the day. This is one of the my favorite songs by the band Breaking Benjamin. A lot of people have heard this song, and many have fallen in love with it. For me, it is easy to see why this would be so popular among all age groups. Breaking Benjamin creates music that is very raw. Each song has a depth to it which we can all appreciate because we have been there. And that rawness is something to be commended. Now one of the reasons Breaking Benjamin isn't what we would call main stream rock, is due to their stylistic elements. One of the most prominent (and my a...

CL and Wizard

Image
Today I have some music for you, from one of the baddest bitches in Korean Music. Now this song is probably the most hardcore CL has gone, and there is a part of me that really likes it! I won't lie, as I go through the breakdown of this song you will see where the drawbacks of the song are for me personally. But onwards! This song definitely follows the more hip hop route of music, and goes to that really intense and badass kind of sound. This is the kind of song that you would listen to when walking into a room as if you run the joint. From the beginning we are introduced to this consistent bass hit that punctuates at the beginning of every set of four beats. Which is weirdly precise of me to point out, but I do so because I want you to be able to pick it out when listening to the song. And from there we get the main melody of the song, which is definitely electronic production. This is like a weird mix of hip hop beats and trap intensity, which I am definitely down for. But the ...

Xilent and Wolfgang Gartner

Image
Today I have some music for you that comes from a genre I have not posted about in an entirely too long of a time period. This song is by the Polish DJ who goes by the name Xilent. Now he is known for his dubstep and drum & bass production, which pretty much sums up the sound of this song quite nicely. This song is actually really interestingly done because of the way the song has its energy spread around. The song starts out with a slower and heavier dubstep sound, merging with melodic dubstep to become something that is both lyrical and electronic at the same time. The song brings us that intense and concentrated sound that melodic dubstep produces, but it still remains on the slightly slower feeling end of the spectrum. But then out of nowhere, we get this spark of energy where the beat seems to double time and feel more dynamic. But afterwards, we jump right back into that dubstep sound and pick up where we left off. Now normally, that would be a weird segue to have, but someho...

CL and Wizard

Today I have some new music for you, from one of the baddest bitches in Korean Music. That is right, CL has dropped a new song and quite a song it is. Now this song is probably the most hardcore CL has gone, and there is a part of me that really likes it! I won't lie, as I go through the breakdown of this song you will see where the drawbacks of the song are for me personally. But onwards! Krewella and DotEXE

Image
Today I have some music by the artist, Krewella! This song is pretty awesome! It can be a dancing song or something that you just chill to. Her voice is fabulous and the drop is so sick! Krewella got really popular within the last year, and despite the fact that one of the members dropped off, they are still making really great music. Krewella is an interesting mix between dubstep and house sounds, making them the kind of act that has the versatility to fluctuate between the two. This song is definitely dubstep based, which means there is a lot of the more robotic sounds in it. A lot of times dubstep can get a little too much for me because the DJs overkill the robotic/video game sounds. But Krewella thankfully does not do that and saves that intensity for the drops. The underlying bass is pretty heavy so it sounds incredible with the volume up! Today's instrumental is by DotEXE. This song has an awesomely chill but a pretty intense sound as well! This song is something you can rea...

Nicky Romero & Krewella and Steve Aoki

Image
Today's song is a really good dance tune/hardcore jamming song. This is a collaboration done by two very talented artists, Nicky Romero and Krewella. There aren't any songs by these two artists that I dislike which is so freaking awesome! The drops are awesome and the throbbing bass is phenomenal. This song has sick written all over it, especially with the meshed sounds and vibes that make these two artists so different. Today's instrumental song is by the craziest DJ out there, Steve Aoki. Not only is his music brilliant, but he is one crazy guy. A perfect combination! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

R3hab, Nervo, & Ummet Ozcan and Maddix

Image
Today I decided to post some hardcore electro music because its kind of freaking awesome. This first song is collaboration done by R3hab, Nervo, and Ummet Ozcan. This song has fantastic drops that lead into these cool synth sounds and a weirdly great beat. The vocals are nice and the entire background music is so solid and full. Definitely a good mix done by these three! Today's instrumental song is by Maddix and this song is severely sick. It moves from an intense electronic sound to a smooth trance feel with some house and then transitions back to sweet beats and this persistent energy. I really like the underlying bass you hear at 3:41 because it's pretty mind-blowing. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

The Pretty Reckless and Seventh Son

Image
Today I have music for you by a band called The Pretty Reckless. I am not going to lie, the first thing that really caught my attention was the vocals in the song. It is really hard to find female vocalists who can really pull off that hard rock sound. Most female voices don't have the scratchy, edgy, and gritty voice that Taylor Momsen has. I love her voice for that! It sounds like a very mature rock voice despite the fact that she is pretty young. Her voice is very reminiscent of Joan Jett, a woman who has a kick ass voice and is one of the queens of hard rock.  She also kind of reminds me of the vocalist from Dead Sara. The thing about these vocals is that it fits so damn well with a song like this. And what is even more impressive is that she actually sounds like this live. I know a lot of rock bands with vocals like this don't actually sound that great live, but Taylor Momsen really knows how to use her voice and she sounds exactly the same. This is both awesome and reliev...

Linkin Park and Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Image
Today was quite the exciting one because I went to the Linkin Park Carnivores Tour concert! Let me tell you, there is nothing that comes even slightly close to the epicness that is Linkin Park. And they sound even more bad ass live. This is a band who is really in it for the music and loves what they do. You can tell by the way they perform and by the way Chester Bennington belts out those verses with screams unlike anything I have ever heard. Chester Bennington has a scream like no other and it sounds so strong and powerful and wild live. If you think it sounds good in a recorded song, wait till you hear it live because then you really get to experience how wonderfully powerful his voice is. His transitions between singing and screaming are absolutely flawless as well. He transitions between them so well that we never hear the other style cross into the other. There are some points when he purposely adds grit and gravel to his singing voice but he never falls into one or the other. Th...

Drake, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Eminem, & Travis Barker and The Glitch Mob

Image
Today I have the most epic rap collaboration for you guys today. This song features some of the biggest names in the rap world today. This song opens with the chorus provided by the vocals of Drake. What Drake does at the beginning is really spectacular because he sets the premise and vibe of the whole song. He gives it that intense and almost hardcore feel but doesn't overdo it to the point where we all think it sounds terrible. The beats in the background help tremendously of course because it has that very hip hop specific feel. The chorus is very enticing and catchy and has this certain kind of energy to it. Drake is not a singer I know, but he sounds really good during the chorus. Drake also opens the song up and takes up the first verse. Normally I would say that Drake, while talented, is not necessarily the best rapper in the game. However, in this song I think Drake killed it. His rap is spot on and completely great. What is great about this song is that it opens and closes...

Far East Movement and Kendrick Lamar & Eprom

Image
Today I have a pretty awesome song brought to you by Far East Movement. I really like how this group has evolved their sound while also keeping a unique, trademark sound. This song in particular has a really good trap twist to it which I find pretty sick. The beat is really great and it works well with the stylistic nature of this song. I think its is so fresh to see an artist going out of their normal comfort song while still incorporating their original style and not including what is considered "popular." While trap is becoming more popular, the way Far East Movement handles this song is very unique. Today's instrumental song is the instrumental version of one of my favorite Kendrick Lamar songs. You can't ever go wrong with this song. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Kendrick Lamar and Nari & Milani

Image
Today's song is a remix of my favorite song by Kendrick Lamar. Last night at the Grammy's, Lamar really showed his incredible showmanship and skill, while also being the only other person to pull off rap rock phenomenally well in these recent years other than Linkin Park. This song has a sick drop and an amazing beat. Plus, one can never go wrong with Kendrick Lamar. Today's instrumental song is by Nari and Milani. This song has awesome bass and really nasty drum work. This song is pretty intense and just plain crazy. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Escape The Fate and The Winter Soldier

Image
Today's song is by the band known as Escape the Fate. Now this song is defintely more hardcore than other rock songs I have posted in a while. But what I love about this song is how hardcore this can sound while retaining an awesome hook line with a great minor melody. Everything about this song pieces together so well and I absolutely love the way the chorus is sung and the background instruments. This song is really pretty sick and it is nice and different from everything else I have posted. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I really really enjoyed this trailer song when I heard it and thought it suited the dark nature of this upcoming film. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

AFI and Gotham Road

Image
Today's song comes from a band that I haven't posted about in a long time. AFI recently came out with a new album and this song is one of the lesser known songs off the album. I really like the pounding drum beat along with some of the creepiest and sickest vocals. This song has a mix of super rock and a haunting chill which is pretty awesome! Today's instrumental song is by a band called Gotham Road. This band is a little heavier than AFI, but still a good band for all my metal rockers out there. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Art vs Science and D-Wayne

Image
Today I have some weirdly awesome and pretty sick music for you! This first song is by a band called Art v.s. Science. This song is so freaking incredible with its jarring melodies and harmonies that clash together to create an incredible piece of work! this song has so much energy and it is a great motivation song. The beat is pretty damn sick and it is just a wicked song! Today's instrumental song is by a DJ who goes by D-Wayne. This song is pretty freaking awesome, especially when you hit the drops. It isn't even so much that the drops are heavy, but the transition to another beat and music style. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Nine Inch Nails and Hammer of the Gods

Image
Today I have a song by the amazingly raw band Nine Inch Nails. This song has a very awesome sound in the sense that you hear it, and are immediately hit by the sheer power of the song. It has an eerie vibe to it, but also has a very dark sound that makes this song pretty freaking awesome! Today's instrumental song comes from the movie Hammer of the Gods. I have to say, this movie was pretty damn intense and pretty freaking sweet! It is definitely an action packed and slightly disturbing movie, but it was a thriller. This song has the same eerie sound and mystery that is absolutely phenomenal! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
