Drake, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Eminem, & Travis Barker and The Glitch Mob
Today I have the most epic rap collaboration for you guys today. This song features some of the biggest names in the rap world today. This song opens with the chorus provided by the vocals of Drake. What Drake does at the beginning is really spectacular because he sets the premise and vibe of the whole song. He gives it that intense and almost hardcore feel but doesn't overdo it to the point where we all think it sounds terrible. The beats in the background help tremendously of course because it has that very hip hop specific feel. The chorus is very enticing and catchy and has this certain kind of energy to it. Drake is not a singer I know, but he sounds really good during the chorus. Drake also opens the song up and takes up the first verse. Normally I would say that Drake, while talented, is not necessarily the best rapper in the game. However, in this song I think Drake killed it. His rap is spot on and completely great. What is great about this song is that it opens and closes with the two strongest verses. Drake really molded this verse and part of the song to his particular style of rapping. Drake definitely gives us one of his strongest performances in this song with both the rapping and chorus. From there, we move onto Kanye West. Kanye West is a phenomenal rapper and while he does have quite the ego, his music doesn't seem to suffer. He has a very good ear for producing good songs and music. However, I have to say that this was not one of my favorite performances by him. It was good but not great. Though, Kanye West does follow the ups and downs of the beat very well. He jilts and pauses his beat when the drum beat tells him to and by doing so, follows the rhythmic pattern of the song instead of just straight rapping. He also has some great pop culture references that are borderline funny. The next verse brings us some Lil Wayne. I have to say that he didn't bring much to the song in my opinion. While a lot of people love his work, I am not such a huge fan. Lil Wayne seems a little sporadic in his lyrical choice and it just didn't have the same impact on me as the other verses do. Finally, we get to Eminem. He completely steals the entire song away from the other rappers. Eminem is a god, and yes, he is the rap god. His lyrics are phenomenal and wickedly done. This song brings back some of that slim shady feel which we all know and love. There is a wildness to his verse and a darker spin to it. This song features some of the scarier parts of Eminem but I have to say that I positively love the Hannibal Lector reference. That may even be what makes his verse even more sick. He writes lyrics that are dark and scary and almost angry, but performs them with a calm that could be even more intense than his normal "angry" rap. To top off the list of incredible artists, we have Travis Barker. For those of you who don't know him, he is the drummer for Blink 182 and is one of the greatest drummers in the world. All the percussion you hear in this song from the backbones bass to the snare drum beat and melody is done by his hand. A truly remarkable person who is both talented and genius. This song in general is just phenomenal and a head banger. Today's instrumental song is by The Glitch Mob. This trio knows how to work drum beats and make things sound wicked. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
