Clean Bandit and Ellie Goulding

Image
Today I have music for you by the British electronic group known as Clean Bandit. This song was kind of popular for a slight while, but it didn't get too popular to where the radio killed the song. I really like the way the they use string instruments for a large part of the song. The main string instrument they use is the fiddle which actually sounds phenomenal with the electronic beats and synths. This song also features the piano which also sounds awesome with the electronic music. This song has a very good balance of electronic and actual instrumentation which is really good. There aren't usually songs like this out right now, most of the electronic music featuring a singer and a bunch of musical programming. However, this song was really good at maintaining that balance and also factoring in the vocals. Clean Bandit opens the song with a really nice violin solo and then brings in the keyboard melody. This gives way to just the vocals and synth sounds. These sound almost li...

Parachute and Pirates of The Caribbean

Image
Today I have music by the band Parachute. This band has a very pop punk sound to it which is something that hasn't come out in a long time. The era of punk bands passed a while ago so it is nice to hear something that goes back to punk roots. It is fantastic that Parachute began as a punk group and evolved into the sound you hear today. This song has this easy, carefree sound to it which is consistent with some of Parachute's older music. Wil Anderson has an absolutely phenomenal voice. He sounds good in both the recordings and live which is always a fantastic skill to have. Wil Anderson has a very dynamic voice that can change from a deep sound to a higher pitched one and he also sprinkles in some voice cracks as well. This song is fun and energetic and is one that you can be caught tapping your feet to. This song is very percussion and beat oriented. The opening mainly features the drums and keyboard synths. The guitar doesn't make much of an impression in this song which...

Judah & the Lion and Deadwood

Image
Today I have some music for you by a band called Judah & the Lion. This is a band that plays a style of music that is slowly becoming popular. I was very impressed with this song when I first heard it because it has such a hearty sound to it. That Southern soul which isn't country music is what makes up this song. I really really like it! This might sound like music Mumford and Sons or The Lumineers put out, but Judah & the Lion have a very different soul to their music. Part of it may be easier for me to recognize because I am from the South. But there is less country to this song and more Americana in it. This is more folksy fiddle music and carries over a lot of the sub genres that make up Americana music. I really like the way they perform this song in the video. You can tell that Judah & the Lion has fun doing what they do and really enjoy making music. There is enthusiasm and energy which carries over into the song itself. This song does have a liveliness to it an...

Plan B and Daddy Yankee

Image
Today I have some music for you out of Puerto Rico by a duo known as Plan B. This song is really cool because it has an awesome mix of modern electronics and the more traditional Latin beat. This song has a really good energy to it because it is not overly energetic nor is it very languid. I really like the way this song sounds, especially the chorus. This is an awesome song to dance to because you can do so much with it. You can do some salsa or bachata dancing to it but also go with something like hip hop as well. This song has a sound that appeals to a wide range of listeners. I also think it is really cool how every member of the group has something specific to contribute to the song. A lot of times bands and groups of singers provide similar ranges and the rest serve as harmonizers to the person singing the melody. But for this song we have someone who sings the chorus, another who does more of the rapping, someone to cover the low bass notes, and another to get the higher ones. I...

O-Zone and Calvin Harris

Image
Today I have quite an interesting song for you because it is one that is so completely recognizable,  but. I one ever seems to know ow who it is by or where it is from. So today, I am sharing with you the most popular song that came out by the boy band trio called O-Zone. These guys hail from Europe and definitely have the groove and feel that nu-disco in the European countries had many years ago. This song has one of the most iconic choruses. This This song got very YouTube famous for many reasons, one of which includes a dancing video. But this song does actually have have a catchy tune to it. There is a danceable element to it even though I don't understand what is being said. It is a fun and energetic song that you can't help but want to jam to. I know this is a song that doesn't need much explanation once you hear it, but O-Zone really did do a good job with this one. It has all the elements necessary to become a worldwide sensation. The three.guys all have very differ...

Mat Kearney and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Image
Today I have music for you by the great singer Mat Kearney. I have posted some songs by him in the past, and if this is your first time hearing his voice, my you are in for a wonderful listen. Mat Kearney has voice that can melt your heart and make you feel so good. His voice is one that is soothing and energizing and settling all at the same time. The only other voice I can compare him to is Chris Martin. I have yet to hear a song by him that I don't like. His music is so special because he writes every word and composes every song. His style of music is also very unique. It is very much like the solo male vocalists you hear, but it is also very different. Mat Kearney loves to use percussion in his songs. Almost every song has a really cool percussion beat and just cool percussion in general! This song is very drum beat heavy and it also uses the piano beautifully. The opening is really nice with the piano because it gives the song a little bit more of a lighthearted sound. I thin...

Linkin Park and Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Image
Today was quite the exciting one because I went to the Linkin Park Carnivores Tour concert! Let me tell you, there is nothing that comes even slightly close to the epicness that is Linkin Park. And they sound even more bad ass live. This is a band who is really in it for the music and loves what they do. You can tell by the way they perform and by the way Chester Bennington belts out those verses with screams unlike anything I have ever heard. Chester Bennington has a scream like no other and it sounds so strong and powerful and wild live. If you think it sounds good in a recorded song, wait till you hear it live because then you really get to experience how wonderfully powerful his voice is. His transitions between singing and screaming are absolutely flawless as well. He transitions between them so well that we never hear the other style cross into the other. There are some points when he purposely adds grit and gravel to his singing voice but he never falls into one or the other. Th...
