Nat King Cole and Paperman

Image
It has been an absurdly long time since I have posted any sort of swing or jazz style music. So, today I have music for you by the wonderfully talented Nat King Cole. This song is very popular in the world of romance and jazz, and for good reason. This song oozes style and grace in a way that was so special and particular to that era in music. This is a simple piano melody but it still carries the romantic and lovely feel that an orchestral or big band piece would give you. Nat King Cole is not only an accomplished pianist, but a singer who has indescribable talent and passion. Even though he passed away almost 50 years ago, his music and singing is a timeless classic and masterpiece that is still popular. His popularity doesn't span one specific age group or country either. People all over the world continue to listen to his smooth baritone voice and jazzy piano. This song in particular is very sweet and I think the most moving part of the song is the simplicity to which was produ...

Echosmith and The Hobbit

Image
Today I have some music for you by the band known as Echosmith. What I like about this song is the calm atmosphere the song has. This song is definitely one that is more intent on finding the right atmospheric sound to accompany the vocals. From the beginning of the song, we hear the synth and lightly strummed guitars which then gives way to the lyrics. The instrumentals to this song are just as important, if not even more so than the actual lyrics. When combined with the wispy vocals, this song has a rounded feeling of innocence. It talks about a normal adolescent issue and has the innocent feel to go with the idea of being lost. I would go as far as to say this song has an effervescent nature to it in the sense that there is an almost breezy feel to the song. It is one of those that provides energy, but does so in a very controlled manner. It is like restraining a wild horse and taming it to suit your needs. This song took the wilder energy and molded it to fit the sound of a more in...

Tritonal & Jonathan Mendelsohn and Julian Jordan

Image
Today I have music for you by Tritonal. This duo is up and coming and this song can tell you why. Tritonal has a very clean style of making music. Many electronic artists don't clean up their songs to make them the best they can be, but Tritonal hits the mark every time. These past few years has seen amazing progress for this duo and a little bit of evolution in their sound. This is their latest single and it has taken a slight turn to the house side of things. This song does have a nice combination of trance and house, but it tends to lean more on house. While this is just a sampling of the song, it has a very complete and round sound to it. We are exposed to the phenomenal vocals provided by Jonathan Mendelsohn. This guy, talk about incredible vocals. It might take a few listens to hear it, but right before the first drop you can hear Jonathan Mendelsohn screaming distantly in the background. And this isn't one of those dubstep crazy screams. This is a singing kind of scream ...

Bastille and Tarzan

Image
Today I have music for you by one of my favorite bands of all time-Bastille. This is a band that really knows how to make music and how to make every song sound different. It is so hard for me to pick a specific song that I love more than the others because they are all that good. Dan Smith has a voice that I was floored by the first time I heard it. It is so incredible beautiful and wonderful and capable of so much. There is a very unique sound to his voice and I am extremely thrilled that Bastille's music is on par with the vocals. Bastille has a wonderfully different sound to their music. One thing that is a commonality is the use of percussion. Almost every song has a great percussion influence. This song specifically relies a lot on the percussion feel. From the beginning of the song to the chorus, the percussion remains a key point in the sound. Of course you have the conventional drums, but there is also a hint of shakers and different kinds of drums. There is also a cool sn...

DJ A.Sen & DJ Amann and Edward Maya

Today I have a very interesting song for you. This is a remixed version of a Bollywood song and I can tell you that I like this version a lot. Now I am going to say now that I am not condoning nor rejecting the use of hookah. You do what you need to. Now, this song has been very well remixed. It retains a lot of the original content of the song. If you go listen to the original version you can definitely hear what stayed the same and what was changed. For example, this remixed version is faster and maintains the same beat throughout. The original song has a period of time in which the beat is slowed down and it kind of breaks the song a bit. From the get go we get that Eastern feel while also clearly hearing the more European electronic influences. Especially the Romanian/Israeli/Middle Eastern style of electronic music. The way the the synth is done has that sound, that very Edward Maya sound. Honestly, I love that so much! Sometimes I find it way better than some of the electronic mu...

Jupiter Rising and Capital Cities

Image
Today I have music for you by a duo known as Jupiter Rising. This song is definitely on the older side of the newer style of pop music but it still has that really appealing sound that we all like. I think what makes this song different from a lot of others is that it has that banter between the two singers that is of the flirty nature. Not to mention the fact that both of these singers have really good voices as well. These are vocals that definitely sound amazing with this electro style. This isn't like the typical house or electro songs and follows more on the pop side. The melody and instrumentation of this song reminds me of late 90s and early 2000s songs. It has a heavy use of keyboards, synths, and drums. It is one of those songs that is good for clubbing to and can always be a go to song for any kind of dance party. This song has been called a ready made synth beat which I can agree with. There isn't much remixing needed for it to be a good addition to a club's play...

The 1975 & The Odd Life Of Timothy Green

Image
Today I have music for you by a really great indie band that I haven't posted about in a long time called The 1975. I have yet to hear a song by this band that I do not like. There is an extremely unique sound to this band from the vocals the instrumentation. I feel like the vocals give a clear picture as to why they sound so unique. Many times with foreign singers, the accents all sound the same when singing. But what makes this band so unique and original and defined is the fact that Matt Healy sings and maintains his accent. You can clearly hear the English accent when he sings and I find it perfectly beautiful and cute. There is a little bit of individuality, maturity, sophistication, and cheekiness in the way he sings and that accent brings forward a very special sound. There is something that Matt Healy does to make every song have either an ethereal or haunting sound to it simply because of his voice. This is a voice I never get tired of because it is so refreshingly differe...
