The 1975 & The Odd Life Of Timothy Green
Today I have music for you by a really great indie band that I haven't posted about in a long time called The 1975. I have yet to hear a song by this band that I do not like. There is an extremely unique sound to this band from the vocals the instrumentation. I feel like the vocals give a clear picture as to why they sound so unique. Many times with foreign singers, the accents all sound the same when singing. But what makes this band so unique and original and defined is the fact that Matt Healy sings and maintains his accent. You can clearly hear the English accent when he sings and I find it perfectly beautiful and cute. There is a little bit of individuality, maturity, sophistication, and cheekiness in the way he sings and that accent brings forward a very special sound. There is something that Matt Healy does to make every song have either an ethereal or haunting sound to it simply because of his voice. This is a voice I never get tired of because it is so refreshingly different. I have yet to hear a band with a vocalist that sounds slightly like Matt Healy. As far as the music goes, this band really strips down and presents itself for what it is and I love that. They don't have elaborate performances or props or other nonsense. Their music doesn't reflect empty ideas and thoughts about deep subjects and the topics themselves are things that most other musicians don't touch on. The idea of fear and love and drugs and money and life, life is what they really capture. The good and the bad, the excitement and the fear, the juxtaposition of the black and white they so love to use to juxtapose the idea of life. These are the things that make this band great. They openly, willingly, and plainly discuss topics that most people want to sweep under the rug and this is what separates them from the rest. The 1975 gives each and everyone of us something to connect to. Not a single person is incapable of not connecting to at least one song because the themes all regard the truth of life. With this song we get a beautiful juxtaposition of the bright and dark of life. The melody of this song is pretty bright and upbeat. The guitar offers us a repeated motif that turns into the chorus, but it has a hint of happiness or contentment to it. But then, when you pay attention to the lyrics, there is more darkness to it. This song is one that has been a little harder for me to understand. Part of me thinks it is about a strong woman who knows and has what she wants but cannot come to secure a relationship. I could be totally and completely wrong, but there is still that element of a darker side. But then you get sucked back into the melody and rhythm of the instruments in the background. There is a slight bounce to the song and it flows well with the jilt in Matt Healy's singing. This is a band I will always love for a multitude of reasons and this song is just fantastic. Today's instrumental song is from the movie The Odd Life Of Timothy Green. This song has moments of sadness and lighter tones which come together to make this piece. That is what makes music great. The ability to convey a multitude of emotions without uttering a single word if need be. This score was absolutely incredible! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
