David Archuleta and Kygo

Today I have some music for you by an artist that we all use to love watching perform on live television. He was the sweet and adorable kid with a beautiful and angelic voice on American Idol. He was also such a heartthrob when his first single came out. That's right, today we are talking about the wonderful, the magnificent, David Archuleta!

Now if that name isn't a throwback, I don't know what is. But it seems as though after his ridiculously successful first single came out, he disappeared. In fact, he did take a break from music for two years. But he never really went away, he just shifted his focus. David Archuleta has been collaborating with artists, quietly putting out new music, and trying genres across the board. He even collaborated on an incredible pop take of a popular opera song! But today, I want to focus on his new music, specifically, a track from his latest album. When I first heard this song, I had to stop and listen. And then hit replay, again and again. This song is just that good! Everything about David Archuleta can be felt in this song. His mesmerizing voice is heard, the lyrics speak to a kind and gentle heart, and the theme of the song is crafted by someone who genuinely wants to make everyone feel good. Now, onto the music!

This song has a few different elements working through them, which all come together to make this track a masterpiece. One of the best moments in this song is when the music switches from being a beautiful synth-driven ballad to being a tropical driven jam. We also get a taste of different sides of David Archuleta's voice, starting from a gentle beginning to the soft falsettos, to the powerhouse chorus and then the gentle and contained closing. This song isn't the typical kind of up-all-night party song. It is more about the thoughts that ran through his mind at night. All those wonderful and weird and strange thoughts you have late at night. That being said, this is still a song that you can bop to! This song actually follows a period of self-reflection for David Archuleta, so this song feels more like we are hearing what is going on in his mind, and that kind of vulnerability is always a special thing. You can feel that vulnerability in the way the song starts, with the soft but deep musical intro. There is something transcendent and ethereal about the simplicity of the first few bars, but that translates into the pensive and vulnerable nature of the song. As we get to the main chorus, we get an upbeat and warm sound, filled with tropical synths.  This is where the energy really kicks in, and the chorus has a wonderful and danceable energy to it. There is also a hopeful brightness which carries through to the very end of the song, leaving us with such a feel-good vibe. I am such a fan, and love the direction that David Archuleta is going with his musical style!

Today's instrumental song is by the father of tropical house, Kygo. This song takes on a different kind of sound, with a more soothing and slower vibe. This song is heavily driven by the piano, which allows the track to have a tranquil atmosphere. This song is especially good for soothing late nights. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
