Bastille and Tarzan

Today I have music for you by one of my favorite bands of all time-Bastille. This is a band that really knows how to make music and how to make every song sound different. It is so hard for me to pick a specific song that I love more than the others because they are all that good. Dan Smith has a voice that I was floored by the first time I heard it. It is so incredible beautiful and wonderful and capable of so much. There is a very unique sound to his voice and I am extremely thrilled that Bastille's music is on par with the vocals. Bastille has a wonderfully different sound to their music. One thing that is a commonality is the use of percussion. Almost every song has a great percussion influence. This song specifically relies a lot on the percussion feel. From the beginning of the song to the chorus, the percussion remains a key point in the sound. Of course you have the conventional drums, but there is also a hint of shakers and different kinds of drums. There is also a cool snapping sound to it and a tambourine. I think it is awesome that there is minimal guitar use in this song, just the bass guitar. I am a huge fan of the whistling as well. At first it kind of adds a mysterious sound to the song but then it takes on a charming sound as we progress through. And of course the vocal harmonies at the end are to die for. The softer vocals layered on top of the lower octave sounds amazing. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Tarzan. It was hard for me to find an instrumental song that would fit the first one, but these two have similar musical motifs. There is a slightly optimistic and inspiring sound to both of these and they don't overplay the happy feel. It has a calm strength to it, befitting a character like Tarzan. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
