Röyksopp & Robyn and Transformers Age of Extinction

Image
Today I have the newest song by Robyn a nd  Röyksopp   for you. Robyn has a really cool style to her persona and music. This song in particular goes back to the older style of electr onic music with vocals. It even has a slight disco feel to it, which is something that Robyn can do so well. They went back to the beginning and worked from scratch to make this. From the beginnings of electronic music, this is what they have pulled from that age and combined with the new era of electronic music. I think this style of music suits Robyn so well and she is able to pull it off so well, especially with the type of vocals she has. This song has an upbeat and dance feel to it, but the lyrics scream sadness, loneliness, and desperation of many kinds and that creates an innate pull to the song. I got so hooked on the background music of this song. During the chorus there is a change from major to minor and that really pulls out the darker feelings. This style is similar to that of early e...

Arctic Monkeys and 300: Rise of an Empire

Image
Today I have some music for you by the Arctic Monkeys. Now I absolutely love the Arctic Monkeys. They have such a dark style of playing rock music and it is just incredible. Every one of their songs has this ability to get inside your head in a way that a lot of songs cannot. Now this song is off their new album AM, and this album kind of takes a different direction with their music. What I have noticed is that there is a much heavier reliance on the drums and the beat of the drum rather than a guitar melody or solo. From a rock standpoint, this is possibly one of the best albums to come out in 2013, and this song in particular is one of my favorites off the album. In the final chorus there is an awesome use of background group vocals to support the main ones and that adds a sense of eerie mysteriousness to the song. I am pretty sure all of the Arctic Monkeys songs are on my Halloween playlist because that's what this kind of music does to you. It makes you feel the dark  areas of ...

Kaiser Chiefs and The Killers

Image
Today I have music for you by an older band out of Leeds called Kaiser Chiefs. This song is reminiscent of the style of The Beatles. This song in particular has a clear influence of The Beatles in my opinion. But it is such a fantastic song in terms of Kaiser Chiefs' originality and unique sound. It has been a long time since we have heard a song like this come out into the music scene. Though this song is seven years old, I am trying to make it comeback. Or at least have it featured on a throwback Thursday type thing. There is a simplicity in the lyrics that somehow makes the idea of the song stick even more. For a break up song, this song has a little bit more bounce than is usually expected, but this small level of pep makes this song even better. I think it adds something more to the chorus and sets this song apart from a lot of rock bands that kind of follow this style. And of course, the chorus itself is self explanatory as to what these guys are asking and whom they are aski...

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Today I have some Bollywood music for you because it has been a while since I posted anything non-English. Now as a lot of people know, Bollywood is known for plenty of dance numbers and songs, most of the time accompanied by a shallow plot. Now as and Indian person, I think it is okay to say that sometimes Bollywood does fall short of good movies. However, no matter how bad or poorly planned the plot is, there is always at least one song that is pretty darn good. A lot of Bollywood music these days have taken on a very Westernized twist to it and this can either be a good thing or a bad thing. I think the Western influence has had the capability to make some awesome dance songs that I thoroughly enjoy. These kinds of songs don't have the normal, traditional style of dancing but rather a fusion of Indian and Western moves. Now this song is particular is actually a favorite of mine for multiple reasons. To get to the actual song you are going to have to skip to 40 seconds I believe....

The Young Professionals and Madeon

Image
Today I have the newest song by The Young Professionals. This is a duo that really knows how to make a comeback song. It has been a long time since TYP had released anything new, and now that they have, I can remember why I liked them so much in the first place. This song has such a good vibe and a really pumped up feel to it. Talk about song for the summer! This song is actually perfect for hanging out, dancing, and enjoying everything there is to enjoy about life. I think the supporting vocals that Eva Simmons provides are perfect compliments to the male vocals. This song is a step away from the heavier, more intense feel that some of their other songs have. However, this song retains the idea of mixing modern beats with an electronic feel and it is this combination that makes this song so infectious. I can't listen to this song without feeling really good and extremely energized. I think this song has potential to go far, especially with the "fun in the sun" months com...

Ed Sheeran and August Rush

Image
Okay, I am extremely excited about today's song because it is the newest single "dropped" from Ed Sheeran's new album X (pronounced as multiply)   This song is very much in Sheeran's normal range of performing but it also has a different feel to it. It's the midpoint between doing what is comfortable and going out of the box. This song definitely has more R&B and soul to it which I absolutely adore because I find it harder and harder to find this older style of soul. Ed Sheeran actually worked on his new album with Pharrell Williams which is a dynamic duo in my eyes. Both of them have that similar style and groove to their music and they know how to perfect enough groove and pop with a truly soulful vocal performance. What makes this song so different from the rest of his music is that you can clearly tell that it is personal, and it is dark. It isn't as if Sheeran has never written dark music before; "A Team" is an extremely dark song but it...

Young The Giant and Peter Pan

Image
Today I have music for you by an amazing band, Young The Giant. This is actually one of my favorite songs off their new album. I personally feel like this song has so much to offer to the listener. There is this rock energy at the base, but built on top of that is a very vulnerable feeling of what love is and how much love means to the singer. The song opens with this youthful and energetic howl and gives way to the main chorus melody on the keys. The lyrics in this song tell such a wonderful story, one that many people can relate to. The story I get from this song is one of searching for something and coming back to the roots. Coming back down to Earth and seeing it in a completely new way, but the love of his life remains the one thing that is unchanged, and she is the anchor that he grabs onto. This anthemic love song is one that really makes me feel something strong. I don't have a person like that in my life, but the vulnerability and strength with which Gadhia sings makes you...
