Ed Sheeran and August Rush
Okay, I am extremely excited about today's song because it is the newest single "dropped" from Ed Sheeran's new album X (pronounced as multiply) This song is very much in Sheeran's normal range of performing but it also has a different feel to it. It's the midpoint between doing what is comfortable and going out of the box. This song definitely has more R&B and soul to it which I absolutely adore because I find it harder and harder to find this older style of soul. Ed Sheeran actually worked on his new album with Pharrell Williams which is a dynamic duo in my eyes. Both of them have that similar style and groove to their music and they know how to perfect enough groove and pop with a truly soulful vocal performance. What makes this song so different from the rest of his music is that you can clearly tell that it is personal, and it is dark. It isn't as if Sheeran has never written dark music before; "A Team" is an extremely dark song but it has such a beautiful melody. That is kind of what Sheeran does here with this new song. It has the dark lyrics pertaining to a terrible heartbreak accompanied by a very infectious beat and a brilliantly groovy sound. Somehow, this sound gives the song more intensity, but not in a bad way. It gives the song more edge, more bite, and a little bit more grit which magnifies Sheeran's feeling so that we can feel the same things he does. I can't wait for this album to be released! June 23 is almost here! Today's instrumental song is from the movie August Rush. This song is from a particular scene in which the main character gets into a great improv guitar duo with another musician. Even though all of this was pre planned, watching the two of them go at it with the guitars is just mesmerizing. I love the slapping of the guitar, and I love how it adds so much to the song. A percussion without the need for a drum. It sound brilliant and makes me want to do a duet with one of guitarist friends, a cello and guitar doing some slap playing. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
