Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Today I have some Bollywood music for you because it has been a while since I posted anything non-English. Now as a lot of people know, Bollywood is known for plenty of dance numbers and songs, most of the time accompanied by a shallow plot. Now as and Indian person, I think it is okay to say that sometimes Bollywood does fall short of good movies. However, no matter how bad or poorly planned the plot is, there is always at least one song that is pretty darn good. A lot of Bollywood music these days have taken on a very Westernized twist to it and this can either be a good thing or a bad thing. I think the Western influence has had the capability to make some awesome dance songs that I thoroughly enjoy. These kinds of songs don't have the normal, traditional style of dancing but rather a fusion of Indian and Western moves. Now this song is particular is actually a favorite of mine for multiple reasons. To get to the actual song you are going to have to skip to 40 seconds I believe. Anyway for one, the choreography is really good, at least on the guy side of dancing. Second, this song has some sick saxophone and trumpet work. I love the way the brass instruments kind of take over the whole beginning of the song and totally outshine everything else. It's great that they make the Western instruments be the main instrumental background because it adds a modern feel to it. However, they incorporate these instruments so that it fits with and Indian style of sound which is the bees' knees. This song has infectious energy and a great beat that makes you want to get up and dance. Every time I hear this song I either dance by myself, or am dancing hardcore in my head because I am in public and can't afford to embarrass myself further than I already do. Now today's instrumental song comes back to American music. This song by Macklemore is not only awesome but also has some sick saxophone work which we all have come to love and have fun with. I am actually a huge fan of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Macklemore has meaningful lyrics on social commentary while Ryan Lewis is the genius behind the production of each song. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
