Arctic Monkeys and 300: Rise of an Empire
Today I have some music for you by the Arctic Monkeys. Now I absolutely love the Arctic Monkeys. They have such a dark style of playing rock music and it is just incredible. Every one of their songs has this ability to get inside your head in a way that a lot of songs cannot. Now this song is off their new album AM, and this album kind of takes a different direction with their music. What I have noticed is that there is a much heavier reliance on the drums and the beat of the drum rather than a guitar melody or solo. From a rock standpoint, this is possibly one of the best albums to come out in 2013, and this song in particular is one of my favorites off the album. In the final chorus there is an awesome use of background group vocals to support the main ones and that adds a sense of eerie mysteriousness to the song. I am pretty sure all of the Arctic Monkeys songs are on my Halloween playlist because that's what this kind of music does to you. It makes you feel the dark areas of the soul and heart and life in general. The vocals provided by Alex Turner have this dark sexiness to it which adds this kind of tension to the song, and this tension is what can really make the song stand out at certain points. That tension between the mysterious vocals and throbbing drum really capture the essence of this song. I think this song has more of an R&B feel to it as well. I remember reading an article in which the Arctic Monkeys talked about having more of a hip hop influence on this album, and with the drum foundation and the type of beat used, I can see where this influence takes light. There is an amalgamation of styles to this album and I highly recommend that you all go listen to the rest of it because it is phenomenal. Today's instrumental song is from the movie 300: Rise of an Empire. This is actually a kick ass soundtrack, with the use of synth and electric guitars to further emphasize the dark nature of the film. I can listen to this soundtrack over and over again while working out, laying around, doing almost anything! Each song has something different to offer and it stirs this feeling of defiance and strength which is just awesome. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
