Keeping It Fresh

Today I have some music for you by a cover artist by the name of Rajiv Dhall. He has done covers of a lot of different songs, and a lot of different genres. But this has to be one of my favorite covers by him. I am not a huge fan of Rihana's latest hit, but damn these covers are pretty wicked. This one is a really great slow jam version of her song, a grittier and sensual version of her song. This cover is such a well done cover because Rajiv Dhall covers both the singing vocals as well as Drake's rap verse. He also layers his own melodies and harmonies, which not only gives this song a lot of body but also gives it more originality as a cover. You can clearly hear his style, giving the song more of and R&B and soul flair, rather than making it a reggae redo. There is something so pleasing about an R&B styled track. The smooth vocals, the slower beats, the more soul that is heard in the vocals. That all comes together in Rajiv Dhall's cover and it is something that ...

Today I have a remix of a song by one of the best solo artists of recent time. Ed Sheeran has the reputation of being a phenomenal artist. He is a talented singer and musician and is someone who seems to sing for the love of music. He is also one of the artists who seems to cross all boundaries. Though he is white, he won an award for being the most influential artist in black music. Now while a lot of that is stereotyping, it still goes to show that to him, music is something that has no boundaries, no stereotypes, no definition tying it down. Now the thing I love about Ed Sheeran's music is that it has the ability to be interpreted and remixed in so many different ways. Now this remix is done by Speaker of the House, and I have to say that this is one of my favorite remixes. This remix has this chill sound to it that makes it something you can listen to almost anytime. It has that laidback and slightly mellow sound that makes you feel really good inside but also calm and kind of ...

Today I have some music for you by an artist that I have been absolutely in love with for a while. Jai Wolf is one of the most well known underground artists when it comes to EDM and electronic music. Jai Wolf's style is one that I really enjoy and find super fulfilling. Jai Wolf has this very unique chilled out but inspiring kind of sound. It is kind of like what M83 would sound like if they got thrown into a chillstep mix. So basically, Jai Wolf has this ability to create completely transcendent and soul provoking music. This song in particular is one of my favorites by him. It is like feeling the depths of the ocean, the feeling of soaring through an endless sky, the feeling of being completely lost in the trance of music. This is the kind of song you listen to with your eyes closed, taking in the night sky and the freedom of ocean waves and the brilliance of the sun. This is a song that is so many different things, but the same feeling of being weightless and limitless. This is...

Today I have some music for you that is an absolute earworm. This song is by an electronic producer by the name No Way Back, a producer I hadn't heard of till very recent. First time I heard this song, I could not stop jamming out. Now the best thing about this song is how completely raw it is and how this is straight up house. As in pure house music, sounds that we forget exist since music gets muddled up. Don't get me wrong, I love it when EDM genres collide and create wicked song. But every once in a while it is nice to go back to the basics and get that sweet sound of true house. This song is actually a twist taken on a Mariah Carey song, which I had no idea about. But I won't lie, I think this rework sounds pretty darn awesome and is definitely not shy of being groovy. The song begins with a steady percussion loop, which then gives way to more structured and subtle piano beats. This all builds up into the strong powerhouse vocals of Mariah Carey while getting thrown in...

Today I have some music for you because Google is finally back up and working. Now today I have music for you by an artist out of England by the name Zack Knight. Now this is a guy who has a really great thing going on in terms of musicality. In fact, this is something I have seen a lot more of, a nice resurgence of a style of music that definitely went underground for a few years before resurfacing. Now this is a great style of music because it is a smooth fusion of Indian and Western music. I mean it is a straight flow between the two, switching between them and making sure the song gets some Hindi in there as well as English. Now this song in particular is definitely geared more towards English, with only a few verses done in Hindi and Punjabi, but I seriously haven't been able to get the song out of my head. I mean it has everything- a sick beat, a catchy chorus, and a really good vibe. I definitely would consider this song to have a seductively thrilling kind of sound. Everyth...

Today I have some music for you from the world of Bollywood. This is from the latest Hindi film that I watched, and I have to say, this is a soundtrack that I fell in love with. The whole movie is all about love, love for music and that which you are passionate about as well as love for that one person in your life whom you can't live without. This song is sung by one of my favorite playback singers of all time - Arijit Singh. He is one of the newer singers to come into prominence, but his musical work is unparalleled in comparison to other new songs and singers. Arijit Singh is not only a powerful singer, but is one who is very emotional and vulnerable when he sings. Whether you hear his tracks as part of an album, or hear him sing a live show, his music is so beautifully melancholy at times, kind of like this song. This song is one that I have not been able to stop singing, one that I have not been able to let go of in my head. This song is one that doesn't have the typical d...

Today I have some wickedly amazing electronic music for you. This first song is by an artist that I love so much for many reasons. Seven Lions is an electronic act that never disappoints both with album mixes and live mixing. Seven Lions has this very unique style of music that is very trance like and ambient, but is also something that you would definitely catch yourself dancing too. I know that I cannot help but sing and belt out the lyrics to his songs. Seven Lions never fails to have vocalists that are stunning. I mean pretty much every electronic act has incredible vocalists, but Seven Lions chooses vocalists that seem to be specifically for electronic music. These vocals fit like no other vocals could and it is just incredibly perfect. Tove Lo provides the vocals in this song and they are so powerful and transient. This is one of those songs where the voice is able to take you out of Earth and have you soar around in space, floating about the planets and their colorful rings. Thi...
