Rajiv Dhall and Omarion

Today I have some music for you by a cover artist by the name of Rajiv Dhall. He has done covers of a lot of different songs, and a lot of different genres. But this has to be one of my favorite covers by him. I am not a huge fan of Rihana's latest hit, but damn these covers are pretty wicked. This one is a really great slow jam version of her song, a grittier and sensual version of her song. This cover is such a well done cover because Rajiv Dhall covers both the singing vocals as well as Drake's rap verse. He also layers his own melodies and harmonies, which not only gives this song a lot of body but also gives it more originality as a cover. You can clearly hear his style, giving the song more of and R&B and soul flair, rather than making it a reggae redo. There is something so pleasing about an R&B styled track. The smooth vocals, the slower beats, the more soul that is heard in the vocals. That all comes together in Rajiv Dhall's cover and it is something that is very different from the original song. Now as someone who very much likes creativity in music, I have to commend and applaud Rajiv Dhall on his own creativity. The way that Rajiv Dhall has produced this song, uses a lot more electronic work. While the instrumental background is rather simple, the auto tuning of the harmonies and layered lines are definitely present. Now I am not sure if he likes using a vocal pedal board or just your run of the mill auto tune, but either way he uses it sparingly and properly so that the auto tuned vocals barely kiss the song instead of being a majority of the vocals. Rajiv Dhall really lets his real voice shine through and makes sure that what we really pay attention to is his own voice. With this song we get to hear his upper range for most of it, although Drake's verse warrants him to bring the pitch down some octaves, only to go back up to that more R&B sound. I am a very huge fan of his covers, and I think Rajiv Dhall has got a lot of potential. This cover is so refreshing to hear because, first of all, it isn't a weird dance gimmick. Second, we get to see a different take on a very popular song and that is always a genuine piece of excitement for music. I can't wait to see what else Rajiv Dhall has in store for us. Today's instrumental song is a throwback song of sorts, back to the days when Omarion was everything. This song is a little bit older, but is one that I am in love with. Especially the chorus, Omarion really takes it away with the song. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
