Keeping It Fresh

Today I have some jazz music for you! But this is a special kind of sound because this song features your traditional swing and jazz,  mixed with some R&B and modern beats. Jeff Bernat is a really low key and more unknown artist, but I think his music is very creative and edgy and cool. The song itself is really cute and sweet, but the whole idea of the how it sounds and what the style of the song is, that is what really drew me to this song. When the song first starts out, it sounds like your traditional jazz song. The nice kind of piano jazz that you hear when you walk into a fancy hotel or go ballroom dancing. But then that gives way to this modern and contemporary beat, something that clearly has a little bit of R&B influence in the way the percusison sounds. And to top it off, Jeff Bernat has a voice that is as rich and smooth as some of our favorite R&B and soul singers out there. While this is combination I have seen before, this is the song that has perfected th...

Today I have some really fun music for you guys. Tonight was the night I finally got to see Morgan Page. After years, I finally got to see one of my DJ idols and house gods. And of course, it was one hell of a show! He played his own music, remixes, and did some improvised work as well, and nailed it every time! He played my favorites, played the songs that have become Morgan Page anthems, and just killed it with everything he played. It was so nice to be able to go to a concert after so long, and Morgan Page was possibly one of the best shows to go to for that rejuvenation. So naturally, I have to have one of his songs as a musical choice. This song is one that is newer, but is also a fantastically good one. One of the great things about Morgan Page is that a lot of his music features vocalists, which is something I really enjoy. I have noticed that the EDM world has some of the best vocalists, and those vocals are so hard to find outside of the genre. This song is a really great one,...

Today I have some music for you by a wonderful but somewhat under appreciated solo artist. Adam Lambert may not have won American Idol, but he has won over the ears of such a huge audience. But the sad thing, is that he is not as well known as he should be, given how great his talent is. It is kind of funny when I talk to people about Adam Lambert's music, because most of them have no idea what his music sounds like. But Adam Lambert has a voice that is almost angelic and full of so many hidden possibilities. He sings with so much conviction, no matter what kind of song he is singing. Whether it is a ballad, or a hype song, or a pop song, Adam Lambert will sing his heart out and look fabulous while doing so. But what makes this song even better, is that it has so much meaning. These are not empty lyrics, but ones that tell stories. The general story though, is the pain and sadness that can be found in the large city. How not everything is full of glitz and glamour. Adam Lambert jus...

Today I have some really cool music for you by the English DJ who goes by the stage name Shift K3Y. This is the first song I heard by him, and I loved it! This is a song that has such a groovy vibe, but a really tasteful one. It is a nice bubbly, and lively, lush, and vibrant song, one that can get everyone on the dance floor. There is this really nice dash of pop music in the song as well, something that is so perfectly balanced and smooth to listen to. I have to say, this song has a very UK garage feel to it, a sound that is deeply unheard of hear in the US. A travesty for sure, but this is the kind of song that everyone wishes got played at the club. There is this wonderfully brilliant throwback jam, channeling the 80s with that funky synth work. And Shift K3Y really knows how to make this song a modern twist, throwing a lot of house into the song. And the vocals fit perfectly with that vibe. BB Diamond adds this sultry vibe to the song, which is actually really cool. Pretty differe...

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side. Zayn Malik is due to release his debut solo album this year, and I have to say, I am very excited! His voice is one that is meant for R&B and soul, for hitting those more e...

Today I have some music for you by the artist known as Nathan Ball. Now from the name, you would think that this is a one man show. Which technically it is. I mean the main part of the act is indeed the singer songwriter, Nathan Ball. But this is actually a four man band. Now when I say it is a four man band, I mean that Nathan Ball has a great entourage of musicians who play and make his music complete. And, I am so happy to say that one of these musicians is a cellist.  Also known as my favorite stringed instrument. Of course I am biased because I am a cellist myself, but it always makes me so happy to know that orchestral instruments are making a lot of headway in the music industry today. But on to this beautiful song! So this is a song that has a lot more ambiance to it. It isn't a sad or happy song, melancholy or bubbly song. But it is one of those songs that has the ability to put you in the moment. It is the kind of song that you can listen to while paying attention, or hav...

Today's music is by an artist that I haven't been able to stop listening to lately. The Knocks is an awesome musical duo from the great, New York City. The Knocks is such a great musical group because they are able to pull off so many sounds without a second's hesitation. This song though is my absolute favorite. This song is so unlike the rest of their music. Normally they have a more rave kind of sound, something that is more high energy. And this song does have a great dancing beat and movement to it! But this song has that really special kind of energy that makes you feel everything around you. It isn't everyday that you hear and electronic song that takes you to that special place where everything falls away, and it is just you and the beautiful world. This is one of those psychedelically wonderful songs, taking you to a higher state. This is a song that reminds me of the ecstasy of being alive and doing things that make me feel completely free and alive. This is a...
