MO and Justin Bieber

Image
Today I have music for you. This is an artist who really took the new year in stride. MO even went as far as to produce a song about the new year. Which I honestly found really cool! I haven't heard many artists sing to bring in the new year. But as usual, MO has created a really catchy and cool song for us. This isn't holiday festive or anything, and she sticks with her normal sound. This song is chill and great for just hanging out and lounging around. MO has a great voice, one that doesn't get you super hyped up but also doesn't get to your feels. I mean this is a song that is supposed to be celebratory song! And MO does a great job of making this a song that us exciting but also something that is more calm and relaxed. While this isn't necessarily a song I would listen to all the time because of what the song pertains to, but it is a song that I definitely would listen to every once in a while. It's just so nice and chill! Today's instrumental song is a...

Happy New Year

Image
Today marks the last day of 2015. This was year full of a lot of surprises. There were some great moments, and some saddening moments. There were some tragic events and some that marked new beginnings and new life. Today's music is a compilation of the biggest songs from 2015. These are the songs we jammed out to, the songs we danced to. These are the songs that made us smile, the songs that we sang our hearts out to. These are the songs that made us cry and remember what it is like to really feel. These are the songs that made us feel alive. This is 2015 in review, the songs that defined the year. All I have left so say is thank you so much for another incredible year with this blog, and I hope you all enjoy the music! Here is to a memorable 2015 and an incredible 2016 to come!

The Bravery and Green Day

Image
Today I have music for you by a band that was pretty popular in the mid 2000s. The Bravery is a band that has a really interesting mix of being a little punk, a little alternative, and a little old school. There is more electronic work in this than most other punk bands, but there is still that nice human aspect to it. It is so nice to be able to hear a guitar and drums and keyboard being played, giving the song a more down to earth feeling. There is a more raw energy that comes from playing music with your bare hands. This song is definitely more uptempo, more fun, and takes on the more revival age of rock music. I really like that! I have really missed rock songs like this, the kind of songs that have a little bit of a grungier or more garage sound to them. The 90's kind of rock feel. That is what we get with this song. The vocalist Sam Endicott has a voice that is great for this song, although weirdly not what you would necessarily expect. He has this deep and laid back kind of v...

Splitter and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Image
Today I have some music for you that is so refreshing because it is just some good old rock and roll. This song is by a band called Splitter, a name that I would automatically think would suit a  more metal sound. But this song is what I think the Beatles would sound like if they had a little heavier rock. And I love it! This song has a lot of the older rock elements that have become classic, but the lyrics and style of guitar playing is very modern. That combination is pretty damn swell when we hear it in a song like this. I mean you take the guitar solo that is thrown in the middle, and that just screams rock and roll. And then of course we have the vocals which remind me so much of Paul McCartney. This is definitely what a modern day Beatles would sound like, and there is nothing wrong with that! Every kind of artists needs some evolution, it just so happens that a second band proves to be a bit of that evolution for the Beatles. This song opens up with a repeated guitar rhythm ...

Thirteen Senses and Merlin

Image
Today I have music for you by the band known as Thirteen Senses. I really like their style because it has a very energetic feel while being a soft-spoken and sounding group. There is a great rhythm and beat to this song. The drum beats are not necessarily faster paced, but syncopated in a way so that they are more pronounced and give the song the constant push of energy it needs. When you take that away, the song has the potential to be a little dry and airy. Now that comes from the way the vocals are. They are more feathery, spending most of the time hanging out in the falsetto range of things. Which isn't bad at all! I think it is pretty darn impressive to hear that falsetto being held for a while. And the accompanying keyboard work is on the lighter, providing long bars of sound rather than another harmony. And again, that is why the drums become so important in this song. They are more of an accompaniment than the keyboard is. While this isn't how most songs are done, I rea...

Lauv and Rain Djawadi

Image
Today I have some music for you by the New York singer-songwriter Lauv. This is a guy who has really nailed the whole "jack of all trades" thing when it comes to music. See, not only does Lauv write and perform his own songs, he also produces them and creates the music himself. Literally, the full package. This is the first song I heard by him, and it was the only song needed for me to fall in love with Lauv. He has a style that is both soothing and seductive, but emotional and vulnerable at the same time. There is a lot going on underneath the surface of this song. I have to say, as soon as the chorus kicks in, I am kind of taken to another place. It takes me to that place where all I can feel is the embrace of the night and the stars while I just move to my own vibe. The way Lauv changes seamlessly from a major to a minor scale is so beautiful! The harmonies and melody flow in between each other, creating one steady stream of sound that is smooth and wonderful. This song al...

Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez and Olly Murs

Image
Today I have some pretty exciting music for you. A little bit of background, I was never a huge Justin Bieber fan. I mean his old music, I really didn't listen to at all. But over these years, we have seen and heard a lot of evolution in Justin Bieber's music. And now, I cannot stop listening to his music. The latest album to come out is absolutely genius. This is the best Justin Bieber has ever been and each and every song has something different to offer. So naturally, I have to post about one of those songs! But what makes this more exciting, is that today's song is a mashup of one of Justin Bieber's latest releases and one of Selena Gomez's latest singles. I have to say, I am still not on the Gomez train, but this mashup is absolutely phenomenal. This version has a good balance between the two songs. The background melody is different variations of Justin Bieber's song, something that is pretty recognizable and something that is a very pleasing sound. It act...
