Lauv and Rain Djawadi

Today I have some music for you by the New York singer-songwriter Lauv. This is a guy who has really nailed the whole "jack of all trades" thing when it comes to music. See, not only does Lauv write and perform his own songs, he also produces them and creates the music himself. Literally, the full package. This is the first song I heard by him, and it was the only song needed for me to fall in love with Lauv. He has a style that is both soothing and seductive, but emotional and vulnerable at the same time. There is a lot going on underneath the surface of this song. I have to say, as soon as the chorus kicks in, I am kind of taken to another place. It takes me to that place where all I can feel is the embrace of the night and the stars while I just move to my own vibe. The way Lauv changes seamlessly from a major to a minor scale is so beautiful! The harmonies and melody flow in between each other, creating one steady stream of sound that is smooth and wonderful. This song also has the emotional power to pull at your heartstrings. You can feel that sense of raw emotional energy that Lauv pours into the song, especially when he sings the chorus. It is something that we can all understand, something we can all really feel. I mean this isn't a song for getting over someone. It isn't a song about reminiscing how much you loved that person. This is a song that pays homage to the rough nights, the times when we need something to just make it through the day. Its an anthem for tripping over the curbs and slurring your words together. Its an anthem to avoiding fist fights and getting lost. Its for making it through another night. The beauty of this song, lies in the simplicity it has. This song is guided by a steady electronic pulse, warm piano lines, calm guitar picks, and sensuous and ambient sounds. Add in Lauv's luscious murmur, and we get something that is elegantly saddening and moving. Today's instrumental song is from the show Game of Thrones. It has been a very very long time since posting a score, and this is one that is so hauntingly tragic. Breathtaking. But full of sadness. Ramin Djawadi has to be one of my absolute favorite composers of the modern age. His work with this show has been nothing short of phenomenal and every scene seems to have the perfect music to accompany it. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
