Keeping It Fresh

Today I have some slower music for you, from the world of divine class and swoon worthy vocals. Nat King Cole is one of the greatest swing and jazz singers of all time. His daughter Natalie Cole is equally as spellbinding and captivating. The thing about Nat King Cole's music is that it is incredibly enchanting. His voice is so rich and smooth, with a beautiful touch of gentleness. Nat King Cole's music is that which captures the essence of what a true gentleman is supposed to be like. I know that is a little bit strange of me to say, but as someone who enjoys that older and more romantic era, songs like this are absolutely lovely to me. I can't help but want to listen to these songs under a beautiful moonlit sky, or with the soft glow of fairy tale lights against the dark backdrop of the sky. It is kind of funny because I went to a cafe today that is nestled on the edge of a lake, with beautiful trees around it and the wide expanse of a hill on the horizon. And naturally, ...

It has been quite a long while since I have posted anything by a non-English artist, so today, I have some sick Korean music for you.  A lot of people have this preconceived notion of what Korean music sounds like. Normally, people automatically think of the K-pop groups and all the stereotypes that go along with K-pop stars. But, there is a whole other side to Korean music, and this is the kind of music I love. Today, we get into the world of Korean rap. What I love about this side of the spectrum is that things sound so bad ass and a lot of these songs have some sick instrumental backgrounds. These are the kind of Korean artists, and artists in general, that know how to make wicked music with the use of electronic work and bass. Diplo has been known to work with Korean artist that fall into this part of the spectrum, and holy hell it is incredible. So with that knowledge, I think it makes it a little easier to understand where this kind of music comes from. This song in particula...

Today's song is by a band from England called Keane. This song is one of the greatest and sweetest songs I have heard. Keane is one of those bands that knows how to hit your feelings and make you move with the music. While this isn't a song that dance to, it is one that you can't help but sway to. This is one of those songs that you can really immerse yourself into, which is one of the best things ever. The vocals are very beautiful and has this unique quality to it where it has a very soothing sound with a slight grit to it, but also has this different strength. And of course the accompanying music is just incredible, with great melodies and perfect balance. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Dying Young. I haven't seen the movie, but I did love the score for it! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Today I have some interesting music for you, in the sense that you may find it a little bit quirky. Today's first song is by the ever incredible band by the name The White Stripes. Now The White Stripes is probably one of the most iconic bands of the late 90's and early 00's. This is a band that everyone seems to know, even if they have never heard a song by them. It is just one of those names that you know, regardless of what kind of music you listen to. What I like about this band is the blending of grunge rock and blues rock to create songs that have some really great bass guitar work in accompaniment with heavy drum work. The White Stripes tends to ditch the dependence on the electric guitar in favor of the lower tones and deep thrum of the bass guitar. This is a song that makes you automatically feel like a badass and a rebel. That is one of the things that The White Stripes can do to you-make you feel like the coolest and most suave person in the world. This song just...

Today I have music for you off Kendrick Lamar's latest album, To Pimp A Butterfly. Now, one of things that makes Kendrick Lamar one of my favorite rappers of all time, is the fact that he has some of the greatest lyrics I have ever heard. They are clever, witty, powerful, and moving. Each song seems to have a story to tell, whether we understand what that story is or not. This is his most controversial and possibly one of the most controversial songs I have heard, and I absolutely love it. Kendrick Lamar is a rapper who doesn't really care about what the media and press are going to say or criticize him for. He speaks his mind and lets us know what his opinions are through his rhymes. This song in particular is a racially-charged song. And considering a lot of the news we hear, I think he is greatly justified in writing this. Kendrick Lamar tries to tackle hatred, racism, and hypocrisy all at once with this song. I mean, the first few lines talk about him being a hypocrite! Thi...

Today I have some chill music for you. This song is by Troye Sivan, better known as being a popular Youtuber and actor. This song is a very interesting one for a few reasons. The first thing that kind of struck me was how soulful his voice is. Troye Sivan hasn't even hit 20 years old, yet his voice is so incredibly soulful. The first few opening notes kind of blew me away because they just ooze smoothness and sensuality. This song is not meant to be sensual at all, but there is still something almost hungry about the way Troye Sivan sings this. This song is also a surprisingly dark pop anthem. The chillstep vibe does not give away the demons and shadows that seem to haunt the lyrics. This song is completed with a downtempo electronic sound and melancholy lyrics to create this image and feeling as if you are world-weary. This song is moody and existential, a complete turnaround from the music we hear from most pop stars these days, especially teen stars. Troye Sivan is completely aw...

Today's song of the day is actually not an original, but a remix. Sound Remedy has done a remix of a song by Ellie Goulding. My sister actually showed me this song, and I have to say, I am glad she did! This song has the typical style elements of Ellie Goulding's voice and music, but also smoothly meshes with the electro/house style. You can definitely tell where the drop is....the beginning also kind of sounds like Florence and the Machine....but honestly this is a pretty good song! Today's instrumental song is by The Glitch Mob. This song has fluctuating drum beats which I think is so amazing. At times it will be on the beat and other times it is the most awkward places! This song has a different type of intensity which makes it awesome! I hope you enjoy and please feel free to comment!
