Keeping It Fresh

Today I have music for you that I find to be quite unique. This is from a Bollywood film and comes from the Indian music industry, yet it sounds like nothing I have ever heard from this film industry. I know that Bollywood is home to thousands of movies and even more songs, but this song is unlike anything I have ever heard from the entire era of Bollywood music. This song is from the movie Ek Villain which is an absolutely phenomenal movie. A lot of Indian films that have come out in the recent few years have kind of sucked, but this film is one of the really good ones. And with a movie like this, you have to have a soundtrack that is equally as interesting and intriguing and spectacular. This song is actually one of my favorites from this movie and for good reason. I guess this breakdown will have to start from the beginning. I love the way this song opens with the gorgeous piano solo to set up the song. This is a darker and sadder song because this movie as a whole is darker. But th...

Today I have some slower music for you by a band that I absolutely love. Parachute is a really special band in my heart. This is a band that has been able to really move me and make me really feel. There are a lot of songs out there that are able to make me feel moved and feel that deep emotion and passion and love and heartbreak, but Parachute is a band that consistently delivers songs like those to me. This song is one of my favorites because it has the energy of a rock song but the mellow and smooth vibe of a romantic song. This is indeed a romantic song, and it is one that I really enjoy. There are actually two versions of this song, one being more of a slow jam and something more acoustic. And there is this one. This one is the full band version and I kind of like this one better. This has all the elements of a slower band song but is coupled with the lyrics that only Parachute could write. One of the reasons I love Parachute is that they write lyrics that are so beautiful and lov...

Today I have music for you by Dada Life. I am super excited because this duo is going on tour and they are finally coming to my area! Dada Life is an act that I want to see so damn bad because they know how to put on a show. Some people think they know raves, some people go to raves, and then some people go to Dada Life concerts. Dada Life is a crazy act with fruit and champagne and hardcore dancing. This song is one of the more pumped up and playful Dada Life songs. This song is just so much fun to listen to because it makes you want to get up and dance. If this song got played in a club I would actually get so happy and so excited because it is just so much fun!  Now what is so cool about Dada Life is that they are totally and completely willing to experiment with their music. This song is definitely more on the house side of things, but this second instrumental song is their orchestral version of the first song. That is correct. Dada Life arranged and orchestral composition of t...

Today I have some really funky music for you. This song is by an artist who goes by the name Kennedy. Now this is a guy who really brings the 80's disco era back to life. I think his music is a great adaption of modern electronic music and funky disco. I mean you can tell from the get go that this has quite the 80's influence in it. The music in this song is very heavy on the disco and funk era, especially with the synth work and keyboards. It is so weird to remember that the musician, Jack Kennedy, was the guitarist for the Silversun Pickups. It is quite the transition from that genre of music to this one, but I have to say that Kennedy did a phenomenal job of it. This song seems to have little or no influence from his time with the Silversun Pickups. In fact, this song is so incredibly electronic and eclectic. I know that this is a style that is really starting to gain popularity nowadays, but this song came out long before this newfound love of disco. This song is full of up...

Today I have some music for you by the famous country singer Jason Aldean. Now I know it has been a long time since I posted anything country, so hopefully this will be a nice change. I am going to keep this one a little short today. Jason Aldean is such a big name in the world of country music and it is clear to see why. He has that rich and powerful tone to his voice with a slight twang to make things sound really country. He takes more of the intense and energetic route with this song and I like that! This song features more electric guitar work than acoustic guitar but I think that is perfect for this song. The electric violin makes a spectacular entrance in this song. We really hear that fiddle twist of the violin and it seems to soar above all other sounds in this song like it has a solo of its own. And of course you can never go wrong with the sick banjo work. I mean if there is anything that people should love about country is that the fiddle and banjo really make or break the ...

Today I have music for you by the band Bag Raiders. Now a lot of people may know this band because of their huge hit "Shooting Stars," however, there is so much more to this band than you can even fathom. Bag Raiders is one of those bands that has no boundaries to their music. Bag Raiders traverses all kinds of electronic scales and synthpop areas. On one hand you have songs like the one mentioned earlier. And then you have songs like this one. Songs that are so energetic and lively and completely addicting. This song is just so catchy and vivacious and exciting! There are a lot of different and incredible things happening with this song. Now this duo is out of Australia and with this song you can kind of hear that coastal and beach-like influence. However, we also get a more tribal and tropical beat which I would like to attribute to an Aboriginal tribute. I could be wrong, but I like how Bag Raiders incorporates different aspects of the Australian culture in this song, whet...

Today I have some rock music for you. This song by Sublime is possibly my favorite one by them. This is the last song that the original singer of Sublime, Bradley Nowell, ever did. He sadly died right before it was released. But I have to say, this is a great song for him to have as his legacy. In the world of rock, this song is one of the most iconic songs of the 90s. This is one of the songs that brought punk rock to the forefront and made it more of a mainstream sound. Even after Sublime's breakup which happened over 10 years ago, this song persists as a fan favorite and is still around today on all kinds of radio stations. Sublime still remains an immensely popular band across America and is one of the most notable acts of the 90s. Almost everyone who was a kid in the 90s knows Sublime and they all know this song for sure. For being one of the last songs done together as a group, this is surely a knockout. This song features the beachy and coastal sounds that are often associat...
