Kennedy and Saturday Night Fever
Today I have some really funky music for you. This song is by an artist who goes by the name Kennedy. Now this is a guy who really brings the 80's disco era back to life. I think his music is a great adaption of modern electronic music and funky disco. I mean you can tell from the get go that this has quite the 80's influence in it. The music in this song is very heavy on the disco and funk era, especially with the synth work and keyboards. It is so weird to remember that the musician, Jack Kennedy, was the guitarist for the Silversun Pickups. It is quite the transition from that genre of music to this one, but I have to say that Kennedy did a phenomenal job of it. This song seems to have little or no influence from his time with the Silversun Pickups. In fact, this song is so incredibly electronic and eclectic. I know that this is a style that is really starting to gain popularity nowadays, but this song came out long before this newfound love of disco. This song is full of upbeat and fun sounds with a great inclination towards the party scene. This is a song that has infectious energy and makes dancing contagious. This is a song that doesn't have depth and meaning to it, but is still completely unforgettable. The thing that really makes this a modern song for me is the silly lyrics. I mean to be quite frank these are not lyrics we would hear from music in the 90's. But these lyrics are silly and fun and playful which really gets me thinking that it has that more modern flair. That coupled with some of the ways that the beats sound pulls together a great mix of styles. This is a song that seamlessly blends the disco era and this EDM era. This is just a perfect combination and I can definitely see myself jamming to this all the time. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Saturday Night Fever. This is a movie that has gone down in history as one of the most iconic dance movies. This song comes from that classic movie, and this song is also a great example of old school funk. This is the music that was played at clubs in the 80's; something a bit more suave and cooler than a lot of the music we listen to now. The credit for this song does have to go to the Beegees, but thanks to Saturday Night Fever, this song exists. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
