Keeping It Fresh

Today I have some music for you by the artist known as DJ Earworm. Now some of you may have heard of him before because he is best known for being the mashup guy. That is right, DJ Earworm is responsible for all the awesome mashups done every year with the most popular songs of that year. Since 2007, DJ Earworm has put together mashups known as the United State of Pop series. Each of these remixes is done with the bass beat and rhythmic line of one song and all the others are melded in to create the final song. Now, DJ Earworm has this cool and unique style of remixing because he gradually layers songs together. This in turns adds more dynamic movements and texture to the song while also building momentum. Since DJ Earworm is a mashup artist, he deals with music of all kinds of genres. 2014 was a year in which we saw more of a decline in EDM based pop songs. Many of the most popular songs range from reggae to folk to pop to trap. With this large assortment of genres, it can be extremel...

Today's song of the day comes from Europe, specifically, Sweden! Ola Svensson has an amazing voice and a really pumped up beat going on. This is a pretty dancy song, so if you like it, I am glad! His first American tour actually began this year so kudos to that! He was actually a contestant on Swedish Idol, so obviously he is pretty darn great live! Today's instrumental song of the day is from Tron. This is one of the greatest soundtracks of all time because the entire score was composed and performed by techno gods of Daft Punk. If you get a chance, go listen to the rest of the album because it is pretty sweet! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Today's song of the day is by a Youtube sensation who was discovered by Oprah.Charice Pempengco is a girl who grew up in the Philippines and was brought on Oprah for her outstanding voice and vocal range. She has performed all over the world with people such as Celine Dion and David Foster. Her voice is so incredible and even if you don't like the song, you can't deny how beautiful her voice is. And considering the way she was discovered and her repertoire, it is safe to say that this is one talented chick. Charice has incredible control of her voice when she switches ranges and her vocal trills are positively amazing. Charice also has one of the most powerful female vocals of her age. Seriously, this girl knows how to belt and sing loudly and proudly. Her voice is so strong even with the higher ranged notes and it is crazy to hear her do that! Now this song features a sort of one hit wonder artist. Iyaz did have one song that really made radio airplay for a while. But beli...

Today I have music for you by the duo Majid Jordan. This duo was co-created by Drake, so we do hear some of that style in this song. This is a pretty great duo in the sense that they are really good at singing and producing music. Not only do they make catchy music, but it is also them producing. This is not a common thing in the rap and R&B world which is why I think this is pretty cool. Believe it or not, this duo has even produced for Drake. Majid Jordan does a great job of making this song sound seductive and sexy, thanks to their voices and the background music. The vocals are a mix of August Alsina and Lloyd and The Weekend, and basically everything that is sexy about R&B. This song is just so incredibly well done and produced that it kind of takes your breath away. There is this gorgeous breakdown about a minute and a half into the song and it sounds so good because it is so fluid. This song really goes with the flow and doesn't follow a rigid form or formula. This i...

Today I have music for you by a younger singer who has an incredible mature voice and musicality about him. James Bay has a lovely voice that is something soothing and moving. This song has such a great soft sound to it, but it isn't extremely gentle. This song has ups and downs between something more mellow and something with an autumn day kind of feel. James Bay is an artist who knows how to change the direction of a song with his voice. That seems to be the primary force, supported by an extremely strong instrumental background. This song is so great because it is almost like we are hearing an unleashing of James Bay's voice, despite the title of the song. This is a melody that is hard to shake off and the way the chorals swoop in and create this deep and far reaching sound. There is so much passion and sincerity in this song and we can hear that as soon as James Bay opens his mouth. I think one of the greatest things about James Bay is that there is no doubt that he is just...

Today I have music for you by the singer known as George Ezra. This song is so charming in this slightly antique way. I kind of like that sound a lot because it is both soothing and warming. This song just has this coziness that rides the sound waves. George Ezra has a style that is extremely different from all other folk groups out there. He taps into the older and earlier forms of folk music. He even goes a little bit americana for this song. George Ezra seems to channel some Bob Dylan in both musical style and vocalization. George Ezra has this rich tone baritone voice that can only be described as something wonderfully manly but subtly gentle. His voice is perfect for that blusey guitar sound, that original blues-rock feel that came before people like John Mayer. There is this grace to the way George Ezra sings. The words are discernible but also kind of run together in a way that makes the end of one note the beginning of another. George Ezra has this soulful and old voice that yo...

Today I have some music by a band called The Afters. Now it has been an extremely long time since I have posted a song by this band. And it is actually a shame that it has taken this long for me to put up another one of the incredible songs by The Afters. But, they did release a new album and it is absolutely phenomenal! The song I am posting today was actually used to open and present The Golden Globes on television. That is pretty darn awesome in my opinion. I think it is a little ironic that most people have no idea who The Afters are, yet their music is used for some of the biggest televised events of the year. Another one of their songs was used as the theme for The Biggest Loser a couple years back. Anyway, onto the actual song. This is off their new album, and I have to say, this is one of my favorite tracks. What is great about The Afters is that they have some of the greatest and most inspirational songs. The lyrics in this song are so applicable to every one of us. We all liv...
