George Ezra and This Is Where I Leave You

Today I have music for you by the singer known as George Ezra. This song is so charming in this slightly antique way. I kind of like that sound a lot because it is both soothing and warming. This song just has this coziness that rides the sound waves. George Ezra has a style that is extremely different from all other folk groups out there. He taps into the older and earlier forms of folk music. He even goes a little bit americana for this song. George Ezra seems to channel some Bob Dylan in both musical style and vocalization. George Ezra has this rich tone baritone voice that can only be described as something wonderfully manly but subtly gentle. His voice is perfect for that blusey guitar sound, that original blues-rock feel that came before people like John Mayer. There is this grace to the way George Ezra sings. The words are discernible but also kind of run together in a way that makes the end of one note the beginning of another. George Ezra has this soulful and old voice that you wouldn't expect coming out of a guy that young. It almost makes you think of a fisherman's voice. George Ezra's voice is what drives this song forward. Normally it is the other way around, but George Ezra's vocals push and pull and bring energy and calms the song back down. Honestly, the guitar strumming gives a little bit of tameness to the song and offers a light and lovely harmony to accompany the powerhouse vocals. He is able to control the tone and mood of the song with his voice, restraining it to create this overall power to his voice. He doesn't simply belt out the lyrics, but controls the strength to which he sings and that is what creates this overall sense of increased power. George Ezra is an artist that I am looking forward to hearing more from because he has something that is so incredibly unique. It isn't everyday that we get a British man who channels American Folk and does a phenomenal job of it! Today's instrumental song is from the movie This Is Where I Leave You. Now I have to say, this movie was so wonderful and funny and sad and though provoking. I loved every minute of this movie, and bonus, it has a stellar cast. This score fits the movie very well in a subtle way. The underlying flow of the movie is perfectly described in this composition. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
