Major Lazer and Dillon Francis

Image
Today I have got some really wicked electronic music for you. I may have gone on a listening binge, which is the best kind, and heard a bunch of music. This song is by Major Lazer. Now Major Lazer is an electronic project that I am absolutely in love with. Why? Well, Major Lazer has a style that is so different and uses influences from a lot of different cultural sounds. I think that comes from the fact that one of the members is Diplo. With Diplo, we get so much music and so many sounds from all over the world, but he knows how to mix it in a way that sounds so boss. This song has a little bit of culture mixing. The percussion in this song has a very Latin feel to it and a very traditional Latin sound. Now this Latin American sound is actually a really cool addition to this song because it allows this song to be a trap related song. The way that reggaeton and Latin beats work is that they are generally at half the speed of the rest of the song. So with a song in this style, that kind ...

Future Islands and Savoir Adore

Image
Today I have music for you that comes from the list of best songs of 2014. Now the key with this song is that most of you have probably not heard this song before. And that is fantastic! That means I can bring this music to you and hopefully you will like it enough to start exploring more music by theses artists. This first song is by the band called Future Islands. Now this is a really cool band that has a similar style to that of Magic Man in the sense that there is a very balanced mixture of instruments and synth in the music. This song is their most popular single and I can definitely see why! This song has a really cool energy to it that is not like most of the music we heard in 2014. There is a little bit of a U2 element thrown in there. That tone and mood that U2 generally creates with their music is a little bit like this. The lead singer also has the same vocal style as Bono. This song has this rich calm to it that is very soothing and washes over you. This song is about peopl...

Bush and Staind

Image
Today's song is by a British post grunge group called Bush. I have to say, the lyrics in this song can really be appreciated by someone who enjoys study Language Arts or rhetoric. I know, that is a super nerd moment but it is so true! They have a nice vocabulary and great metaphors throughout the song. Now the music itself really captures the darkness associated with Winter, which I find really impressive. Gavin Rossdale's amazing and raspy vocals really make this song complete. Bush is a band that knows how to really bring a mood and feeling to a song. With this one we really get that darker and more intense feeling. Today's instrumental song is by an old band, Staind, and this song is pretty recognizable! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

New Kids On The Block and Rick Astley

Image
Today I have some music that will take you back a few decades. That's right, today I have music for you by the original boy band- New Kids On The Block. Now a lot of people would disagree with me and say the original boy band is The Beatles, however, I define "boy band" differently than what other people do. This is the original boy band that we have come to know and love. They set the precedent for pretty much every boy band to follow. First of all, New Kids On The Block has five members. Look at the biggest boy bands to come after them and notice how they have five members. Why? Well that brings me to the second point. New Kids On The Block has singers that cover every range except for the low bass range. This is a band that really put the male falsetto and high pitch to work. And consequently, so did all the new boy bands (prime example = Justin Timberlake). New Kids On The Block is also a boy band that employed the use of layered harmonies and melodies. Honestly, ther...

Nicky Romero & Vicetone and Alesso

Image
Today I have an incredibly amazing song for you by Nicky Romero and Vicetone. This song is such a new direction for Nicky Romero and I absolutely love it! My excitement over how phenomenal this song is is through the roof. This song is definitely more on the dance side of things and more on the super fun house side. This is one of those songs that crowds go wild to at raves and concerts. It has that high intensity of energy and is so full of life and happiness. It is a musical expression of PLUR and I love that so much. This song is an explosion of music and styles and it is incredible. Vicetone and Nicky Romero have very different styles, but their skills combined gives us euphoria and ecstasy with this song. This song does take you to that other place and that other state of mind. I think that is what I am really enthusiastic about with this song. Both the vocals and instrumentation take me to this place of complete freedom and, yes, euphoria. There is so much energy and power surgin...

Blue October and The Giver

Image
Today I have some music for you that airs a little bit more on the somber rock side of things. This first song is by the band Blue October. This is a band that is under appreciated in my opinion. Blue October has some beautiful music, unlike a lot of other music out there. Every song has such a deep meaning and a theme that they are able to explain to us through music. This song in particular is a song that really speaks to the depths of humanity. This song reaches out toward the feeling that everyone feels and struggles with everyday. This song is off the latest Blue October album, and I must say this is their best album to date. When I heard this song, I heard with the center of my being. I don't know how to explain it. There is something so inspiring about the lyrics, the way they are sung, and the music accompanying it. This whole song has this inspiration and glimmer of hope in the face of all the adversity we face. This is not a song about the typical relationship drama and b...

Jack Ü and Apex Rise

Image
Since it is the beginning of the year, I thought I would take the time to bring light to extremely new groups to the game and also look back at some of the greatest songs of 2014. For today's song, I have music for you by the newly popular duo known as  Jack Ü.  Now,  Jack Ü has been around since late 2013, however, they did not gain traction and more popularity till this year, especially towards the end. So, I think it is okay to say that this duo fits in with the music of the month. For those of you who don't know,  Jack Ü consists of two incredibly talented DJ's- Skrillex and Diplo. While both of these DJ's have different areas of expertise and production, they have come together as  Jack Ü to create music that is out of this world. We get a lot of that trap sound during the drop from Diplo and a the beat style from Skrillex. I do have to say though that this song does lean more towards the Diplo side of the duo which is not a bad thing!  Both of these a...
