New Kids On The Block and Rick Astley

Today I have some music that will take you back a few decades. That's right, today I have music for you by the original boy band- New Kids On The Block. Now a lot of people would disagree with me and say the original boy band is The Beatles, however, I define "boy band" differently than what other people do. This is the original boy band that we have come to know and love. They set the precedent for pretty much every boy band to follow. First of all, New Kids On The Block has five members. Look at the biggest boy bands to come after them and notice how they have five members. Why? Well that brings me to the second point. New Kids On The Block has singers that cover every range except for the low bass range. This is a band that really put the male falsetto and high pitch to work. And consequently, so did all the new boy bands (prime example = Justin Timberlake). New Kids On The Block is also a boy band that employed the use of layered harmonies and melodies. Honestly, there are few boy band that do this as well as New Kids do. Even after all this time and the changes in music, there is a complexity to the vocalization that New Kids On The Block has that boy bands don't have anymore. The harmonies during the chorus are so perfect and are actually my favorite part of the song. Each song also has a different lead. While Donnie Wahlberg was the main vocalist of the group, the lead singer would change for songs, giving each member a chance to shine. In this song, Jordan Knight was the lead singer and absolutely killed it. I love this song so much and his voice is one of the reasons why. You never really hear about New Kids members being more successful than others when it comes to the music they make, but now, we do see that with boy bands such as One Direction. New Kids On The Block is also the first boy band to employ the group dance moves. Now New Kids definitely did not have really crazy dance moves, but something about the way they moved together is so charming and suave. There is also this slight goofiness to the members of this epic boy band. New Kids really made 80's music sound super cool. Let's be totally honest, New Kids On The Block is one of the greatest boy bands of all time. They have the dance moves, the voices, and the stunning good looks-the perfect package for any boy band. Even though they were making music over ten years before I was born, I still listen to them and absolutely adore the members and am in love with their music. Today's instrumental song is possibly one of the most notable 80's songs out there. Rick Astley just made one of those super iconic songs and you can't help but know it and recognize it and love it. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
