Jack Ü and Apex Rise

Image
Since it is the beginning of the year, I thought I would take the time to bring light to extremely new groups to the game and also look back at some of the greatest songs of 2014. For today's song, I have music for you by the newly popular duo known as  Jack Ü.  Now,  Jack Ü has been around since late 2013, however, they did not gain traction and more popularity till this year, especially towards the end. So, I think it is okay to say that this duo fits in with the music of the month. For those of you who don't know,  Jack Ü consists of two incredibly talented DJ's- Skrillex and Diplo. While both of these DJ's have different areas of expertise and production, they have come together as  Jack Ü to create music that is out of this world. We get a lot of that trap sound during the drop from Diplo and a the beat style from Skrillex. I do have to say though that this song does lean more towards the Diplo side of the duo which is not a bad thing!  Both of these a...

The Gladiator and The Last Samurai

Welcome to 2015! I am so excited that I get to keep sharing music with you now, as the new year begins. I hope this does continue along through the year! So to start us off, I have some music that is both calming and beautiful. This is music that seems to transcend the entirety of your being. These are songs that wash over you in that special way that only music can. These are songs that make you stop. They make you stop and reflect and be present in the moment. These are songs that make you really immersed in the world around you, not distracted by the noise and the lights, but rather puts you in tune with all the beauty the world has to offer. That being said, there is something that music alone can capture. There is something that only music can do that touches the soul in a way that can make you truly understand your emotions. Music can make us laugh, cry, ponder, and revel in the bliss of ecstasy. These two songs today are instrumental and come from movies that are both beautifull...

Dragonette and Tiesto

Image
Today's song is more electropo and New Wave music. Dragonette is a UK group that has definitely not been highly introduced in the USA. Their music is very interesting and I personally believe that this group is not for everyone. You will either like them or you won't. A few people are in between, but not many. I really like the beat and deeper tones used. Dragonette is one of those "weird" acts that can catch people off guard, but I kind of like it. Honestly it may just be this song in particular, but I really like the way that it has that rock sound in the chorus especially, but there is a good mix of rock and electronic work in general. A lot of what we hear at the beginning is some more intense guitar synth work which is pretty wicked. This is one of those songs that makes you feel like a bad ass when you listen to it. Despite the part that would be considered weird, I like that this song is so different and edgy. Today's instrumental song of the day is by Ties...

Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder

Image
Today I have some oldies for you, but this song is one of those old but gold songs. The Jackson 5 are still one of the best funk and blues and rock n roll groups to date. Each song has such a different sound yet there is still that same theme and feeling that connects it all. What I like about this song is that it has a lot of motown influence which is a sound that has really taken a backseat in light of recent genres. But this sort of throwback to the motown sound was perfect for the Jackson 5. Another really cool thing about this song is that the lead vocals are done by a pre-pubescent Michael Jackson. So if any of you wanted to know what he sounded like before becoming a teenager, this is it! This song is one of those absolute classics, the kind of song you can recognize instantly. Even if you don't remember the name of the song, the tune is something you can always point out and jam to. This is actually a great song to just chill out and reminisce to. This song is actually used...

Seven Lions and Mat Zo

Today I have some wickedly amazing electronic music for you. This first song is by an artist that I love so much for many reasons. Seven Lions is an electronic act that never disappoints both with album mixes and live mixing. Seven Lions has this very unique style of music that is very trance like and ambient, but is also something that you would definitely catch yourself dancing too. I know that I cannot help but sing and belt out the lyrics to his songs. Seven Lions never fails to have vocalists that are stunning. I mean pretty much every electronic act has incredible vocalists, but Seven Lions chooses vocalists that seem to be specifically for electronic music. These vocals fit like no other vocals could and it is just incredibly perfect. Tove Lo provides the vocals in this song and they are so powerful and transient. This is one of those songs where the voice is able to take you out of Earth and have you soar around in space, floating about the planets and their colorful rings. Thi...

Lana Del Rey and Edward Scissorhands

Image
Today I have music from two movies that have come out within the past year. This first song is by the incredible vocalist Lana Del Rey. She did a remake of the beautiful theme from the movie Sleeping Beauty. Now this version of the song is used in the movie Maleficent. For those of you who have never see the movie Maleficent, it tells an alternate story line and different thread of the characters involved with Sleeping Beauty. In this movie, Maleficent is not the villain, but rather more of an antihero. She is someone who becomes twisted by betrayal, but is fixed by the love of family. What this movie does is not only put a dark spin on the story of Sleeping Beauty, but also gives so much more depth to the character Maleficent. This really is a great movie, filled with both darkness and bursts of light. Now, on to the song. Lana Del Rey's rendition of this popular classic reflects that darkness which is in the movie. Like the movie, this song is draped in overall sense of darkness....
