Parachute and Claude Debussy

Image
I feel like it has been such a long time since I talked about a song that is romantically lovely. Today's song is by one a band that always seems to know how to tug at my heartstrings. Parachute is a band who makes music that I always love being immersed in. Their music takes me another place of calm and tranquillity, a place where the world is bathed in a soft and sunny glow. They always somehow know how to make everything feel alright even when the song may be sad. And this song falls right into that wondrous and simple side of music. This track, like many others by Parachute, is emotionally poignant and incredibly soulful. But Parachute is able to achieve this kind of sound in a way that is so beautifully simple and warming. This song tends to move a bit more away from the "band-like" sound that Parachute has been known to showcase. This is meant to be more of an acoustic piece, relying on very few instruments such as the acoustic guitar, a gentle keyboard, and the ...

Harry Styles & Sam McCarthy and Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire

Image
Finally back today, after a couple of days of being out and about. I want to go ahead and say right now I apologize for not keeping up with posting every day, but just a heads up, I may not be able to consistently keep up with posting every day. But I will definitely try my best! But today I have some music for you that comes from a famous singer, both because of his work with a boy band, but also because his debut album dropped earlier this year. And despite the fame and fortune, I have to admit I really do like this singer and how he has evolved his personal sound over time. Harry Styles is most notable for his involvement with One Direction, a group who supposedly is hitting the studio again (more on this later). I had found this song by him a while ago, however, I stumbled upon it again while I was shuffling through some of my old music. This song is with just him and no other band members. And it is absolutely lovely. This song showcases a completely different side of Harry Styl...

He Is We & Owl City and People Like Us

Image
Today I have music for you by the duo known as He Is We and features the lovely vocals of Owl City. This song is a cute love song, one of those songs that make you smile because it is that adorable. This song has notable influences brought in by Owl City. That chime sound and the way some of the harmonies are done are very similar to the style that Owl City provides. It is quite lovely though! Because there are three vocalists, the chorus showcases really nice two-part harmonies to go along with the chorus. The vocals that Adam Young provides fit like puzzle pieces with the female vocalization. The female vocals are blusey and have a hint of country to it. However, Adam Young brings this special softness that only his voice has. It is a sound that can be passionate and energetic but still maintains this soft tenderness and slightly higher pitch. Usually, Owl City falls under some sort of electronic genre, but this song is completely acoustic. Adam Young blends in spectacular...

Andrew Belle and Nobuyuki Tsuji

Image
Today I have some music for you that falls on the sad and melancholy side of things. Today's song is by one of my favorite vocalists, Andrew Belle. As a solo artist, Andrew Belle has a style that is completely his own and falls into the group of lesser known, more underground artists. It is a shame that artists like this are not more prominent because songs like this are some of the most beautiful. Andrew Belle has a simplicity in his music which makes it even more powerful and moving. He sings with so much passion and soul, but has a slightly gravelly voice which is to die for. It gives this song a more vulnerable sound to it. I got chills listening to this song because it has an ethereal background while also having something that is so grounding. The lyrics of the song are so beautiful and sad and even romantic. The chorus line, the question he asks, it is emotional and meaningful. The vocals Andrew Belle provides adds so much to the meaning of this song because he does sound so...

Us The Duo and Phoenix

Image
Today I have a fun and bubbly song for you by the couple known as Us The Duo. I have to say, this song was actually pretty cute! This is definitely a romantic song, but it is put to such a lively pop beat, giving the song a more dance vibe than anything else. This song definitely has a little bit of a pop rock vibe as well, something that I could imagine hearing from a band like Neon Trees or Phoenix. I haven't heard much new music like this in a while, and I really love listening to this style of music again. There is a really nice warmth that comes with a song like this, something that you can't get from just a rock song or just a pop song. It is the elements of pop synths and rock beats that bring this song together very well. Another thing I really like about this song is the fact that it is not overly ambitious in trying to create a boisterous kind of sound.  Us The Duo does a very good job of making this a song that is vivacious and pleasant and the way the vocals are sha...

Jimmy Needham and Jack Johnson

Image
Today I have music for you by a very low-key independent artist known as Jimmy Needham. This is a man who definitely enjoys the low light, but somehow still shines above those in the spotlight. This is a man who really makes music for the love of music instead of all the other excuses some artists have. Jimmy Needham is a wonderful mix of Michael Buble and Jason Mraz which is actually the most magnificent thing in the world. Jimmy Needham has a wonderful voice, one that is warm and soft and lively. He has a voice that makes you feel really good inside and it just fills you with happiness. His tone is so warm and comforting to the point that even in his sadder or slower songs, I still feel. There is something whimsical and "sweep you off your feet" about this song and it can make anyone feel incredible. For all the girls out there, this is the cutest anthem to the father-daughter relationship. For all the guys out there, this song is how you should feel about your daughter or ...

ZOX and Jason Mraz

Image
Today's song is  by  a band from Rhode Island called ZOX. This band has a very upbeat and fun sound to it What I find so interesting and entertaining about this song is how it has a reggae and rock sound to it! The energy it brings is something I have heard before, but the actual melodies are quite different and brilliant! Now a lot of rock bands today are not necessarily focusing on the reggae specific sound, but the music  industry, in general,  is starting to see a reemergence of that Caribbean style sound. And I love that because who doesn't like that chilled out, calm, and bubbly kind of music?  Now,  what sets this band apart from other bands that employ the reggae technique is that the vocals do not necessarily match. I mean, the vocals fit the band and musicality of the group, but at the same time, there is something about these vocals that give this song a more dynamic sound. I guess if you put the music on wave crests, the inst...

Seryn and Of Monsters And Men

Image
Today I have music from a band out of Texas called Seryn. This song definitely has its folksy sound, but it also has something that really makes it stand out from many other folk sounding bands. There is an element of more off beat drum work and the pulse of the song is something different. I love how there is an indie flare to the song, and I think this is a band worth looking deeper into. As a whole, the band's strength and musical power comes from the vast musical abilities and instrumental talents. The understanding of how to harmonize and create a song that has a dynamism rooted in a commonality is part of the graceful beauty the song has. What makes this song vocally dynamic is the splendid array of harmonies throughout. Each voice is so important to making the song flow the way it needs to. One voice is no less than another, nor is one voice more important than another. While this song starts out as something folksy, it turns into this wall of sound that is incredibly euphon...

Bearface and Enya

Image
Today I have a super chill cover of a very popular song from the past year. Bearface is one of my absolute favorite chillstep artists for a couple of reasons that we get to hear in this song. To start off, the production of this song is fantastic. I mean he took this song and made it something completely original. The tune is even different! I mean the actual vocal melody is the same, but the rest of the song is nothing like the original. This song almost has a magical kind of song, something that is really enchanting and has scintillating moments. The synths seem to glitter in the background, while the percussion takes on a lot of rhythmic complexities. There are actually a few different percussions in this song. We have the bass drum, steel drum, and these other more obscure instruments. Bearface has done so much with this song to make it completely different from the original. This version has this hazy atmosphere, something that is definitely more ambient. He takes this energetic s...

Band Of Horses and Titanic

Image
Today's song is by a lesser know band called Band of Horses. The lead singer has a very distinct voice and style of singing that is very soothing and it sounds great with the music. The song is kind of sad, but I really love this band and this song. Its so nice to listen to when its raining outside....this song is a beautiful blend of soft, soothing music and rock. Band of Horses is a band that really knows how to get into the depth of music and lyrics combined. The lyrics are not always as easy to understand and the music is gull of complexities which gives the song depth. Though the instrumentation seems simple and clear cut, there is more happening in the background than you may realize. I think that is one of the things that makes Band of Horses stand out. They maintain their style of music and character throughout, but add many layers of separate thoughts and ideas to make up what we hear now. This is a band worth checking out in the future and just to really listen to. Today...

Real Estate and The Blue Umbrella

Image
Today's song is by an indie band out of New Jersey called Real Estate. This band makes everything seem so effortless. The ease with which they weave simple melodies with intricate guitar work is just incredible and so appealing. This song has this interesting calming effect but also has this psychedelic element in the sense that it can transport you to a different place. This song takes me to one of two places, one being walking on a beach on a cloudy day and another of just sitting in a coffee shop on a gloomy day with something warm to drink. But those kind of mental feelings are kind of what you get. Today's instrumental song is from the Pixar short, The Blue Umbrella. This is just a very sweet song and I think its quite cute. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Celine Dion & Ne-Yo and Braveheart

Image
Today's song is actually a very interesting collaboration done by artists of two completely different styles. Celine Dion and Ne Yo have created a really nice song together and it brings both of their styles together in a very smooth way. I think this is one of the best collaborations out there. Both voices compliment each other so well and they have such a great tonality when singing together. I haven't heard two voices sound so perfect together in a long time. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Braveheart. This song is very pretty and has a very sweet Celtic influence to it. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Parachute and City of Angels

Image
Today I have some slower music for you by a band that I absolutely love. Parachute is a really special band in my heart. This is a band that has been able to really move me and make me really feel. There are a lot of songs out there that are able to make me feel moved and feel that deep emotion and passion and love and heartbreak, but Parachute is a band that consistently delivers songs like those to me. This song is one of my favorites because it has the energy of a rock song but the mellow and smooth vibe of a romantic song. This is indeed a romantic song, and it is one that I really enjoy. There are actually two versions of this song, one being more of a slow jam and something more acoustic. And there is this one. This one is the full band version and I kind of like this one better. This has all the elements of a slower band song but is coupled with the lyrics that only Parachute could write. One of the reasons I love Parachute is that they write lyrics that are so beautiful and lov...

Atif Aslam and The Painted Veil

Image
Today I have some Bollywood music for you because I find that some days you have to listen to some foreign music. This song is from a movie called Ajab Ki Prem Ghazab Kahani and this is my absolute favorite song from this movie. The movie has a very typical Bollywood plot to it, however, the soundtrack is not completely like the ones you hear from a lot of Hindi films you see. This soundtrack has the combination of dance songs and love songs and sad songs. This song in particular is very beautiful because it is somewhat of a romantic ballad. I really like the fact that vocals are all done by males because for these kinds of songs, the gentler male vocals sound the gorgeous. This song kind of has this Sufi influence which has become a bigger thing in Bollywood songs. These slower songs have this length to them because they are slow. There is no need for the song to be extremely energetic so there can be cool dance moves. These songs are all about the feelings associated with the song an...
