Rixton and Miguel
Today I have some music for you by a band that did experience some fame within the past couple of years with one of their singles. And of course, they happen to be a boy band, but not your standard or stereotypical boy band.
Rixton is an extremely underrated band in my opinion. And while they had one single out that got big, I definitely feel like there is so much more of their music which the world hasn't been able to appreciate. They normally have this generally pop centric tone. Now I have to say I think that their lead single was specifically geared towards the pop culture sound that people craved on the Top 40 list. But, Rixton is a band that is a lot deeper than that and way more talented than what we heard about a guy and his broken heart.
This song by Rixton is simply incredible. This is a real showcase of how talented this band is, and especially the vocalist. The thing about Rixton is that a lot of times they create this opposing sound in comparison to the lyrics. If a song has sadder lyrics, they tend to compose music that is more upbeat to offset the bleak lyrics. That is something so special, and is what keeps me as such a huge fan of their more "underground" or lesser known songs. There is nothing about this song that I dislike. And that includes the lyrics and more upbeat instrumental accompaniment. What really gets me is the melody that bridges the verses to the chorus. This part of the song is the part that I love to sing the most, not only because the melody is so gorgeous, but because I also love the lyrics. There is something about the simplicity of the musical backing and the variability in the vocal sound that is magical.
Rixton also makes incredibly good use of their instruments, and brings in a great blend of additional instruments. The balance that the band is able to achieve in this song gives the song somewhat of a hopeful sound and a sense of starting over. The song opens up with this euphonious blast of sound in which we are automatically introduced to the guitar, drums, and piano. From there we get to hear the violins sing their way into the melody and provide a lovely and gentle filler. I also want to point out how wonderfully precise the cymbal shimmers are. A lot of times we tend to overlook that specific sound in music because it happens so subtly. But I couldn't help but take notice of that in this song because these shimmers came more often, but each moment needed that shimmer of noise. I know that seems like such a minute detail, but I love that there is that much attention to detail put into this song. And that attention to detail doesn't stop with the instrumentation.
Rixton's lead singer has such an incredibly soulful voice that seems to capture so many different emotions at once. The lead vocalist sounds like he could belong to a pop group, dabble in some R&B, and maybe even get a little bit of soul and blues in there as well. The lead singer, Jake Roche, has this beautifully rich and wonderful and warm voice that makes you feel good. His voice is enough to sweep a girl of her feet. He has a voice that easily climbs to reach those higher notes while still maintaining a full bodied sound. He is also such a master at creating these vulnerable moments with his voice, and that adds so much character and depth to the song. In this song we get to hear how the song is in regard to losing a partner, yet has a hopefulness to it. It is really nice to hear how that contrast between lyrics and music show the contrast between the sadness of losing a companion, but the hope and inspiration for what it to come. Rixton is definitely a pop band worth following!
Today's instrumental song is by Miguel. Another man with a lovely and sexy and soulful voice unlike a lot of other singers. This is one of my favorite songs by Miguel for reasons that you will hear. This song just has this coziness to it, the same kind of feeling you get when cuddling or being with someone you care about. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
