Big Black Delta and Phantogram

Today I have some music for you by a solo artist who goes by Big Black Delta. There are so many things to enjoy about this song, from the melody to the lyrics to the music video. This song oozes classy jazz and creativity in all aspects. I like to classify this song as something that is like indie jazz. There are so many elements of this song that make it a jazzy piece. The assortment of brass and woodwind instruments kind of gives that one away. What I think is kind of cool though is that we can hear elements of a group that he used to be a part of shine through the song a bit. Big Black Delta's Jonathan Bates was a former touring member of the band M83. Now seeing how M83 likes to make sounds that are both instrument heavy and electronic heavy, I think it is safe to compare the two artists a bit. Big Black Delta likes to expand the horizons of his instrumental usage. He looks beyond the conventional band instruments like drums and guitars, and opts for more synth, keyboard, and in this case, brass instruments and especially the saxophone. He adds this jazzy gloss to the true indie substance of the song which is such a nice touch. It makes this song something that is irresistibly fun and extremely catchy. This is not necessarily a song that you would expect to hear while in the club, but it is one of those songs that you catch yourself dancing and singing along to when you are doing the most random of tasks. I found myself sliding along the floor to this song while putting the dishes away. It's one of those songs that just makes you feel really good all over. And what is even better is that this is a vivacious song without the use of throbbing beats and blasting bass. It has that more subdued sound to it, but that mellowed out feel is still energizing. The music video for this song is pretty darn wicked. I actually love watching this music video because it is extremely creative. I have not seen anything quite like this before and really appreciate the fact that a unique song like this has a video that is completely original to accompany it. This 80's vibe song has a video that is such a nice mix of older and modern styles. The background of this video seems so 80's, yet the actual content of the video is very modern. The dancing used in this video is somewhat 80's, but the effects used on it are completely modern. Big Black Delta really knows how to put together a song and produce something that is infectious. Today's instrumental song is by the band Phantogram. A lot of people are in the dark about this band, but now hopefully more people become part of their fan base! Phantogram is a two person group that is kind of really awesome. The first time I heard anything by Phantogram, the song did not sound like this at all. And then they released this song and I realized why these guys are so good. There is so much versatility with Phantogram. They vary from being a group with pop rock sounds to songs like this. I have to say, this is one of my favorite songs by Phantogram. There is this cool and smooth darkness with this song that is a little dangerous and extremely enticing. There is even a slight seduction in the darker sounds of the song. The depth of this song is quite amazing and I can tell you for sure that there is so much coming from Phantogram and I can't wait. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
