Steve Aoki & Louis Tomlinson and Vicetone

Today I have some music for you that is rather new and quite important this year. This song is a collaboration done by Steve Aoki and One Direction's Louis Tomlinson. Now we have already seen one member of the famous boy band go out on his own and start a brand of himself completely. Last year we also saw Niall Horan release his first ever single, which mind you, is quite endearing. But what makes this song and this year important is that it officially marks the solo releases of each One Direction member. Over the course of the year, each remaining member of One Direction is releasing a solo project whether it be a single or album. This song is on that list of releases! Now this is a very interesting collaboration in my opinion. Steve Aoki has always been this fiery ball of energy and fun and craziness. It is weirdly fitting that Louis Tomlinson is the featured vocalist on this track because his nature is quite similar. Wild and goofy for sure, you can tell that there is chemistry between the two artists. And we get to hear that musical chemistry on this track as well! Louis Tomlinson is a phenomenal choice for the vocals in this song. He has a softer voice, one that we hear a lot more of in the EDM world. That soft playfulness which we hear in his voice translates really well when Steve Aoki adds in his own production parts. The two artists create this atmosphere of tropical fun and bubbling vivacity which is something I can always look forward to when listening. This song has incredibly infectious musical breakdowns and continues to carry a feel good message as most EDM songs do. Steve Aoki chose to go a slightly different route with this song, making it a dancehall anthem. Instead of being a heavy bass and drop hitting kind of song, Steve Aoki strives towards a sound that is lighter and bubblier, something that is all about getting up and having a carefree time. The electro-house beat flow is a perfect compliment to the uplifting message of the song. The added influence of the recent events in Louis Tomlinson's life gives so much more meaning to the song as well. We now feel the range of emotions he does while singing these lyrics live. I love that he was still able to give us something emotionally vulnerable and vague at the same time. This universally relatable song is a motivating and uplifting one. While I will say Louis Tomlinson's vocals may be even better suited towards something more acoustic, I think he did a phenomenal job with this song. His voice has a nice breathy and light-hearted air which suits this style of music beautifully. If this is what we can expect from Louis Tomlinson throughout 2017, I am quite excited! And of course, we can never go wrong with Steve Aoki. The man is a producing genius and his music has evolved into sounds that are contagiously fun. Today's instrumental song is by a DJ that I haven't really talked about much. Vicetone is one of the EDM world's best-held secrets. The Dutch duo is somehow completely unknown and utterly famous within the EDM world. The work Vicetone does ranges across many styles of house, but their music is phenomenal. Vicetone has such a versatile palette of sounds and we hear them put that to real use throughout the musical journey. Vicetone has the ability to create festival ragers or club bangers, all of which are still incredibly lively. There is a wild and reckless kind of air to their music, but that just makes it even more fun. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
