Splitter and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Today I have some music for you that is so refreshing because it is just some good old rock and roll. This song is by a band called Splitter, a name that I would automatically think would suit a  more metal sound. But this song is what I think the Beatles would sound like if they had a little heavier rock. And I love it! This song has a lot of the older rock elements that have become classic, but the lyrics and style of guitar playing is very modern. That combination is pretty damn swell when we hear it in a song like this. I mean you take the guitar solo that is thrown in the middle, and that just screams rock and roll. And then of course we have the vocals which remind me so much of Paul McCartney. This is definitely what a modern day Beatles would sound like, and there is nothing wrong with that! Every kind of artists needs some evolution, it just so happens that a second band proves to be a bit of that evolution for the Beatles. This song opens up with a repeated guitar rhythm that gets you starting to stomp a little, bang your head some, and strut around like you own the place. Those are some of my favorite kinds of songs, and this one is up there with the rest. This song has some really solid guitar work. From the rhythmic work to the rebellious electric guitar licks, we get a really nice variety of guitar lines and a whole lot of attitude. There are also some horns in the background. They are more subtle, something that you don't really hear till the last chorus comes around. But they add so much body to the song despite the fact that they don't take a main role in the song itself. Returning back to the vocals of the song, I wouldn't necessarily call them stellar. I mean it isn't exactly a voice like John Legend or Ed Sheeran or Andrea Bocelli. But I will say, that there is no other voice that could fit this song other than the one we get to hear. It has enough of that rawness and roughness which partners so well with the wild guitar. And the way the harmonies are done during the chorus, well it definitely sounds like The Beatles. The voices are all layered together, each vocal track taking a different part of the harmony. But they still don't necessarily sing it. The layered harmonies give the chorus more depth and a little bit more of a chaotic feel, something we want from a song like this. I hadn't heard of Splitter until I heard this song, but I have to say, I definitely enjoyed it. I want to actually go listen to more of their stuff! Today's instrumental song comes from the movie The Man From U.N.C.L.E. This movie was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. A suave and sexy American agent pairs up with a more rugged and intelligent KGB agent, creating hilarious banter between the two. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and luckily enough the score accompanying it is just as good. This score is definitely a little comedic, a little intense, and completely representative of the movie. It has that 60's feel to it, but more of the rebellious and dangerous side of that. The smooth nature of a James Bond character coupled with the no nonsense of a Russian spy. Can it get any better than that? I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
