Ed Sheeran and Sheppard

Today I have some new music for you by one of the most beloved artists to come from England these past few years. Ed Sheeran's name is one that is seen all over the music world, whether it is as a musician, songwriter, or performer. His influence in the music world is quite extensive, and many people don't realize how he does so much more than just writing and creating his own music.  However, in light of his recent release, I thought it would be nice to take a look at his new single. This song is done in that very Ed Sheeran style with heavy emphasis on the acoustic guitar. Ed Sheeran has immense talent when figuring out how to properly arrange music around the fact that he prefers to play an instrument as well as sing. This is a brilliantly written song for a few reasons. To start off, the lyrical content of the song goes much deeper than a lot of other music we hear now. I would never put it past Ed Sheeran to write a heartfelt and meaningful song, as that is pretty much how all of his songs are done. But this song is performed with strong conviction and beautiful flow. This is a song where we really do believe every word that is being sung. This is a sing-along anthem about a real life relationship, not a love that is lost in a synthetic fantasy. WE get a raw relationship, the view from the perspective of your everyday friend. Ed Sheeran's pure talent hasn't been lost over the years, and we can hear that both in the lyrics and musicality of this song. The chorus in this song is robust and powerful, filled with folk nuances and charming subtleties. This song also gives us an inside look at Ed Sheeran's life growing up. He pays homage to the town where he grew up, referencing a castle that was actually around while he was growing up. This song is about love and nostalgia, and I like the way Ed Sheeran seamlessly weaves the two concepts. He is able to show them as stand alone ideas and as a part of the same experience, all within one song. Combine that with the stomping groove of the song, and we have got something that is distinctly Ed Sheeran's style but also nothing like his style. With this song, we can hear that Ed Sheeran did go out of this comfort zone a bit, although I wish he had done a bit more. This is where things get a bit interesting. On the one hand, I do enjoy Ed Sheeran's style of music and the way he approached this song. It is a feel-good pop anthem, which many young people can easily relate to. However, on the other hand, I see an artist who is not experimenting as much with his music content. This song is still in a normal style for Ed Sheeran and I would like to see him take a different direction. I will say, though, Ed Sheeran made a track that is easily remixed and a great choice for DJs all over the world. I cannot wait for the rest of the album to release. It has been a while since we last heard anything from Ed Sheeran and I am curious to see where he takes his music. Today's instrumentals song is by the band Sheppard and this song automatically reminded me of Ed Sheeran's. Both of these songs have that infectious foot stomping groove to it. There is a light-hearted happiness to this song, a feeling that is overwhelming of sunny brilliance. This song is like a warm autumn day, one that feels absolutely perfect and beautiful. Keeping that sense of warmth in the music, well that is something that Sheppard does very well of. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
