Edward Maya and Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows

Today I have music for you by an artist who kind of faded out of the spotlight after a big hit. Edward Maya is an incredibly talented artist and producer, and I really love the style he is associated with. Every one of his songs has some sort of exotic feel to it. This song in particular is actually a new take on a Romanian folk song, but the way he has done this mix, you can recognize the original tune and still feel that modern twist. Even though this is a Romanian folk song, there are elements to this song that sound very Middle Eastern and gypsy-like. This is actually one of my favorite things about Edward Maya's music. There is a definite Eastern feel and sound to his song which is completely different from the electronic songs we hear today. I haven't heard any other artist come out with a song that combines the mysterious and traditional sounds of the East with the modern interpretation of the West with the same level of success that Edward Maya does. The instrumental chorus in between the verses is just phenomenal. I could not stop dancing to this song because it is that much fun and that energetic. But the way the energy flows is very unique and is similar to the way Tiesto brings energy to his songs with vocals. There is that sense of trance to this song and when the instrumental portions come around I feel like I am totally free. This is one of those songs that you listen to when running towards a sunset or truly experiencing the night and all that is offered. Dancing in clubs, running the streets, and just truly enjoying yourself. Edward Maya's style is one of my favorites and this song was just so perfectly done. I would not change a single thing about this song! Even the vocals are perfect. Vika Jigulina has the right tone and right softness to her voice that it fits very well with the smooth nature of Maya's music. Her voice is almost ethereal and breezes over the pumping melodies and synths. This song is just so freaking amazing! I am super excited about this song and about how completely brilliant it is. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. I am a huge fan of both Sherlock Holmes movies. The plots are fantastic and the acting is wickedly sharp. The scores for both movies are out of this world and really capture the chaos that is Sherlock Holmes. This song is extremely energetic and impressive. The violin/fiddle work in this song is unbelievable! As a string musician, I can say that being able to master a song like this at that speed is definitely not an easy task. Simple beautiful! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
