Robert DeLong and Kingsman: The Secret Service

Today I have some music that takes us back to the world of alternative rock. I cannot believe it has taken me this long to post some music from that side of the musical spectrum. I think I post in genre waves, periods of time when I focus on a specific sound before switching to something different. But anyway, this song is by an artist whom I have mad respect for. Robert DeLong is one of the most talented artists in the business. Not only is he a singer, but he is also and instrumentalist and producer. And did I mention, he is also a one-man show? That is right. Every sound, every lyric, every shake of the tambourine, it is all him. Robert DeLong writes, composes, performs, and produces all of his music. I have to say, I have yet to hear an artist who has gone to the same lengths to put their music out there. Nowadays I suppose it is easier to physically create music which is why I am more impressed with Robert DeLong's capabilities. One thing that I was completely  blown away by when I saw him perform was the fact that he uses game controllers to make music. The way his music actually sounds, well, I think it is quite interesting. He has this great mix of electronic dance music and indie rock. There is a slightly poppy sound, something that is easy to move to, but also has this dissonance that keeps you trapped and doesn't let you pull away. There is just enough of that weirdness to make you want to stay for more. What is cool with this song is that Robert DeLong employs the use of orchestral and piano sounds to give the song a James Bond-esque sound to it. Not that it is meant to be promotional for the Bond franchise, but I still think it is so cool that he added that element of suave and charismatic suspense. There is this wonderful jazz twist that starts with the music and ends with the way Robert DeLong sings. His vocals in this song do take on a little bit of a jazz fire, while maintaining the soft rock voice. More than anything, I think this is a song that showcases how incredibly talented Robert DeLong is. His catchy beats leave us swaying to the tune of the song, and the infectious groove is something we can't shake. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Kingsman: The Secret Service. I absolutely loved this movie. It was funny, action-packed, witty, and a little bit raunchy. Honestly, a phenomenal movie for any night you want to watch something and chill out. I won't lie, the score is pretty darn fantastic. This is the kind of score that makes the movie. You remember scenes in the movie because of the piece that was associated with it. A lot of movie soundtracks today feature songs that have already been created or produced, but this is a purely orchestral soundtrack and I love it. The strings capture the pretentiously charming nature of the Kingsmen. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
