Nicky Romero and Benny Benassi
Today I have some music that takes us back to a genre I haven't posted about in a long while. EDM music has grown and changed a lot recently, but I will say, I miss the EDM from earlier. In just these past few years, electronic music has changed quite a bit, focusing more on pop music and taking more of the bass heavy trap route. But the style of EDM we once had, the style of music that first had me falling in love with electronic music, is one that we don't hear much anymore. So today, I wanted to take it back some and write about an artist we haven't heard from in a long while. Nicky Romero is an incredibly popular DJ, especially within the European scene. He has performed at so many huge festivals like Ultra and Tomorrowland. He has been quite under the radar for a while now and seems to have taken a break from original production. While Nicky Romero hasn't really put out any new music, I am just as happy to go through his older music to reminisce and era of electronic music that was in love with house and the purest form of EDM. Nicky Romero is one of those DJs who helped spearheaded the movement towards electronic dance movement, and was a huge member of that process, especially with increasing coverage in America. Nicky Romero is a globally performing DJ, and his music is that which makes us remember the euphoric feeling with which we used to live life. That once popular form of electronic music seems buried beneath the cries for heavier bass and bass boosted songs, as well as hyped songs with an accompanying dance number. This evolutionary style of music is great to have, but being able to go back and listen to the way house used to be? That is a trip down memory lane I wouldn't mind. We get to hear this style with Nicky Romero because of his style of maintaining that more house and trance-like sound. His music often features vocals, as this song does. In fact, this song features the vocals of 5 of the most popular male singers from the UK. And with this song, we get a nice buildup that is more on the calm side. Which then gives way to an explosive and fun chorus. There isn't an idea of a drop with music like this. There is a chorus however that acts like a funnel of energy and excitement and passion and love and all the great things associated with this kind of progressive house music. Nicky Romero takes this song and adds a lot of synths and programmable notes that are prolonged and repetitive. This creates a nice bed of warmth and energy for the vocals to lie on in comparison to the rest of the song. Nicky Romero takes this incredibly pop and popular group and turns one of their singles into a song that exudes the brilliance and happiness and euphoria of a house song. I love this remix and love that it brings back that older sound of house music. Today's instrumental song could only be by another DJ who fits into this house and trance era of electronic music. Benny Benassi is a jack of all trades when it comes to electronic music. He tends to bounce around house, progressive house, trance, and other small house genres. His style is similar to Nicky Romero's in the way that they sound. This is the original sound of the big rave scenes that the world so wishes to be a part of. And this song is one of those that create this full sound. There is so much fun energy to the song, a consistently upbeat sound that is full of life. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
