Snakehips & Zayn Malik and Tove Lo
Today I have some new music for you by the electronic duo known as Snakehips. This song is a very good one, and is also an extremely important one for the guest vocalist, Zayn Malik. This is the song that really establishes Zayn Malik as a solo artist. With his debut album, we get to hear him perform his own style of music and get a taste of his solo career, but this song is one that established his place in a broader spectrum of genres. This song is what establishes him as more than just an album singer, but one who can adapt and work with other styles, artists, and genres. Now this song by Snakehips is pretty congruent with their normal vibe of music. There is a more chilled out vibe to the song, something that definitely has a more European dance sound to it. A weird combination to think of at first, but somehow Snakehips makes this mash of genres really fun to listen to. The song starts with a slower paced verse by Zayn Malik, and a slightly melancholy one at that. And then we are blown away by a blast of energy from the chorus, a strong and banging kind of chorus. I really like the way the percussion changes to create that more energetic sound. It is cool because the beats themselves don't get faster, but we hear them more frequently. which gives the song a really strong and powerful percussion line. Snakehips produces this song in a way that is a perfect compliment to Zayn Malik's sultry and moody voice. The ambient beginning is such a brilliant way to introduce Zayn Malik's voice and the piano chords that follow create a full sound to that more mellow part of the song. Snakehips has seen so much success with their music because of how careful they are with the soundscape. And this song is no different! There are subtleties to this song that we wouldn't normally pick up on, but they add so much life to the music. The jazzy elements and ever present ambience is carefully crafted together, blending into the soundscape in a way that is flawless. What is so great about this song, is how unlikely of a choice for a single it is. Normally, a duo like Snakehips wouldn't lead with a song that has this more electronically flavorful and unique sound, but for Snakehips, it absolutely works. The seamless blend of R&B and electronic music is wonderful and maintains this underground kind of impressiveness. Snakehips has a low-key genius that is expressed in this song, and I love that. This is the kind of song that will be stuck in your head after just a couple of listens and is a song that is incredibly contagious. Snakehips definitely keeps their music fresh with this one, offering a song that is easy to sing along and jam out to. This summery, moody, and characteristically glitchy song is one of the coolest songs I have heard all year. Today's instrumental song is by another artist that has really embraced that low-key and ambient kind of sound. Tove Lo has been known for her seductive music, but that chilled out vibe has been a constant throughout all of her songs and topics. This song definitely still has that atmospheric sound, but there is a heavy concentration on what the percussion brings to the song. In all honesty, there is not a real change in the melody and harmonies of the song, but the percussion is what makes this song dynamic and strong. I really do like the way this was done, and hope to get more like this from Tove Lo. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
