Mariah Carey & Miguel and Up

Today I have some music for you by two artists who have absolutely wonderful voices. Miguel and Mariah Carey are singers that have made quite a mark in the music world. So when you bring two fantastic singers together, you can expect to get something that delivers. Which we thankfully do get with this song! Mariah Carey and Miguel are an absolutely magical duo, and this song is one that takes some of the best things about each singer and showcases it in this harmonious song. There are so many things done right with this song, and I sometimes can't help but keep listening to it on repeat. This song is very unlike their normal scope of  music. Miguel is a singer that really focuses on R&B and soul, with a real penchant towards seductive and sensual music. He has a smooth voice, one that is like butter, and his falsetto is to die for. There isn't a wisp of a falsetto, but a clear and strong falsetto which can be pretty hard to find in singers. Mariah Carey on the other hand has done a lot more work outside of R&B than actual R&B music. She tends to stick with more contemporary and pop hits, her voice soaring through the whistle register while still maintaining an incredible tone and volume. Both of these singers have different styles, but I really like they way they came together on this song and got a little of both of their styles. A lot of the harmonies done in the song are very standard of Miguel's style. The specific layerings that are included, give the song a lot more body and wholesome sounds. One of the things I noticed about this song, is that Mariah Carey doesn't really make an entrance until about a third of the way into the song. Normally, we would have heard from her first, but with this song we get to hear the creamy tone that Miguel has. By starting off with him, we also get more of that motown and old school kind of sound. This is a stripped down song, so we don't get too many heavy instruments. But this song is so perfect without those elements. This is a simple song about love that is done without heavy percussion or a band. The vocals and harmonies are just all so tempting! But this song really does have a retro feel which I found to be pretty cool. There is an artful simplicity to the way this song is done. The guitar intro is actually one of my favorite parts of the song because the guitar establishes this old school R&B vibe, and just makes the song start to feel good. It feels like a sunset drive with the windows open, having a great time being in this state of happiness. The instrumentals are pretty limited, but that allows the song to turn into a seductively romantic ballad. But this specific ballad does a great job of combining pop and R&B so that the song doesn't become too overwhelming. And with the vocals, Miguel and Mariah are able to really play off each other. Their voices are a wonderful combination and there is never a sense of one taking over the song. The song doesn't feel rushed or quick, and the vocals are done so well so that both artists get the same amount of presence. I love the way this song is done. It is a romantically comforting song to listen to when just chilling and drinking coffee. The simplicity of the song and the instruments is what gives it such a homely charm and sound. Mariah Carey and Miguel did a pretty much perfect job with this collaboration and I love that ! Today's instrumental song is from the movie Up. The first 5 minutes of this movie are spectacular and adorable and romantic. The love story is just so sweet and I love how it is accompanied by just this piece. No words or vocalization. Just the singing of the orchestra and it's sweet and soft voice. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
