Liam Horne and Florence + The Machine
Today I have music for you by a hidden pop gem out of Scotland. Liam Horne is definitely on the lesser known side of music, but that means he is open to experimenting with his music, the way he does in this song. Liam Horne has a voice that is smooth as butter, one that is also higher pitched. There is so much chemistry between his voice and the instrumentals, and that is honestly incredible. His voice is like a soft touch to the heavier and more thumping sound of the electric guitar. But, that inclusion of guitar work in a way that normally isn't heard in pop music? I absolutely love it. I mean when do we ever get to hear that more intense and heavy kind of electronic guitar work from a genre other than rock? I thought that was such a genius sound and something that I found rather on the seductive side. This song is about a relationship that is slowly falling apart, something that people are very familiar with. Liam Horne does an amazing job of producing a sound that captures a relationship like that. He has a voice that seems to caress and carry a lot of soul, while also having a splash of sexy thrown in there. Then we have the instrumentals in the background, something less structured and a bit more explosive and chaotic. Combining all of these elements is like a musical personification of a relationship that has started to unravel. Liam Horne has made this a song that is so much more than what we hear, and even from the start, we hear something that is truly amazing. There is an incredible smoothness to the entire song, no awkward transitions or weird moments. I actually love how the beginning opens with this long drawn out bass note and then the other sounds get added on. The synth work in this song is really great as well. Liam Horne has this consistent rhythm with the keyboards and synths, one that we hear from the beginning of the song, and that specific sound creates this really cool throbbing and pulsing sound. This is definitely not something we hear regularly from an artist like this. And for someone as young as Liam Horne, I am nothing short of impressed. This song has been my jam for a while, and I hope it becomes one of yours as well! Today's instrumental song is by Florence and the Machine. I don't know why, but the first song really reminded me of this one. Maybe it is because they share the same sentiment of a the good and bad of a relationship. Maybe it is because there is this sense of dark and light in both songs. Either way, this is one of my favorites by Florence and the Machine! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
