Jessie J and Little Mix

Today I have some music for you by an artist that hasn't really been in the spotlight for a while. Jessie J is an absolutely incredible vocalist. She has a lot of power and passion and ferocity with the way she sings and with her voice in general. The thing about Jessie J is that she fits into so many categories yet belongs to none. She is a very accomplished soul and R&B singer for sure. Her voice is quite amazing for that kind of music. But she also stands out from all of those other female vocalists because of her style of singing. Jessie J employs the use of melisma techniques. This basically means that while she is singing syllables or singular words, her voice traverses over a bunch of different notes in succession. And that is something we hear off the bat with Jessie J's music. Each song features at least one melisma sequence and usually her songs are sung completely with this method. The thing is though, she pulls if off so well. Her voice and music and personality all blend so well together, and each part very much suits her overall appearance. I personally think Jessie J is a fabulously talented singer because she dares to sing and write lyrics about things that can seem scandalous or topics that get swept under the rug. And she did this before talking about those things became popular! Truly a progressive take on music from her. Jessie J is clearly not afraid about taking risks and more often than not, it is a good thing. Her powerhouse voice has started to gain traction here in the US which is fantastic because I think Jessie J could really tear up the charts. This song in particular is one that showcases her non stop energy and liveliness. It is a power packed song with fast paced beats and a catchy chorus that gets you on your feet and moving. I thin Jessie J is just reaching the beginning of her US success, and I hope she finds it! Today's instrumental song is a version of a song by the UK group known as Little Mix. I guess one way to describe them is like a female version of One Direction, except more geared to dance music. I mean I won't lie, this is a typical girl band, but they are all incredibly talented. The beat of the first song reminded me of this song and I thought they would go really well together. There is that huge energy that makes you want to get up and move and do something crazy and awesome. I hope you enjoy the msic and please feel free to comment!
