The Cab and Troye Sivan

Today I have some music for you by a band that I haven't heard much of lately. The Cab was one of my favorite bands in high school, but somehow I started to drift away from them. But I recently started listening to them again, and found this gem of a song. It has been quite a while since I posted any music by an alternative band like this, and I thought this would be an awesome time for me to not only post music from a rock band, but also post a song that is more of a plot twist in terms of the sound of the song. You see, this song is one of the sexiest R&B songs I have heard. No joke. So let's start off with the vocals of the song. Alexander DeLeon has one of the best voices I have ever heard. And I am not saying this in any biased way. I mean this guy knows how to use his voice, and can mold it and shape it to sound like whatever will fit the song. In some songs, he has more of a punk voice with the slight jilts and vocal cracks that comes with that. Other times his voice soars in a strong but gentle falsetto. And then we have songs like this where his voice becomes smooth and drips like honey. His silky voice totally nails the whole R&B influence thing that the band has going on with this album. This song showcases Alexander DeLeon's ability to sing vulnerably and seductively and turn on the R&B charm to be nothing short of a dangerously suave gentleman. There are still hints of the rock vocalization that we are more used to, but those slight traces give the song just the right amount of edginess. This is one band that I really started getting into because of how incredible the lead vocals were. It is the kind of voice that makes you feel really good, not matter what the rest of the music is doing. I have to give Alexander DeLeon the credit and praise for how beautiful his voice is, and how versatile he is with using it. Now the instrumentals of this song are definitely more ethereal and celestial. These are the kinds of sounds that make you drop the extra thoughts running around in your head, and make you focus of the significant other right in front of you. I won't deny it, this song has a lot of sensual appeal. But that angelic voice and ambient music in the background make it a great mood setter. The song starts out with subtle piano bars and eventually moves into a pop and R&B beat, keeping the song at a nice slow jam. Now I definitely give the band a lot of props for breaking out of their shell completely. This was a symbol of the ever growing progression of music that The Cab wants and likes. I personally like where this is headed. While I haven't hear the whole album, I do really like what I have heard so far. The introduction of more R&B and less punk rock is a very interesting and different take on this, and I am all for it. Though others may disagree, I still think that this is a really great album. It is nice to hear back from these guys after taking a 3 year gap. Today's instrumental song is by another great singer who recently shot to fame on YouTube. Troye Sivan is an artist who kind of took my breath away this past month. His latest album released fairly recent, and I fell in love when I heard it. So many of those songs were easy to connect to, and they album itself was so interesting and told a story. Troye Sivan is an artist that the world needs to watch out for.
