Travis Garland and Chris Brown

Today I have music for you by the singer known as Travis Garland. And let me tell you, this is a man who will blow you away. The way he sings is just so damn sexy! He has such a smooth and suave voice, one that screams R&B like no other. Travis Garland has everything, He has the good production, great music, and a phenomenal voice. He even has the looks! Which I am definitely a fan of...But anyway, let's get the ball rolling with talking about the general musicality of the song. I won't lie, this sounds like a standard fast paced R&B song to me. I don't necessarily hear anything totally unique, but it is a catchy sound, one that is very ear pleasing. To me, this song is like a weirdly pepped up version of the Eminem song "Lose Yourself." Not in terms of content, but in the way it sounds. The opening has that guitar work going on, and the melody is even a little similar. However, Travis Garland spins it into something that has a little bit more spring to it. I think the most apt way to describe the music is to say that the background music is a cross between Eminem and one of Chris Brown's pop radio hits. But onto to Travis Garland's voice! Oh my gosh, this man can sing! The thing about him is that his voice is very, very old school R&B. I mean you go back to the 90's era, and that kind of soulful R&B is exactly what Travis Garland sounds like. He has that higher pitched voice that just oozes seduction. Even if the lyrics themselves are not necessarily sensual (which they definitely are), his voice is enough to get you in the mood. His voice is so sweet and gentle and just beautiful. There is also a lot of strength and power in his voice. He isn't breathy and light at all, but has these moments when he just belts his heart out. And the way his voice climbs up the scale is perfection. He makes it sound so easy! He is able to switch between notes so quickly to give his voice so much more dynamism and movement. I can definitely say I am an absolutely huge fan of Travis Garland and am super excited to explore his other songs. Today's instrumental song is actually originally by Chris Brown. This way my favorite song by him for the longest time and I don't really know why. But this song has a really great instrumental background which adds a lot of movement to the song. The songs flips between dynamic shifts in vocals and instrumentation so that no one characteristic takes over the other. I am also a huge fan of the way he adds stringed instruments to his music. Chris Brown is a guy who knows how to pump out huge hits with and without other artists performing with him. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
