George Ezra and Caspian

Today I have some music for you by one of my favorite artists out of England at the moment. George Ezra came into the spotlight recently, and I think it is quite understandable as to why. He is a special artist in many ways. For starters, he is only 21 years old and has the low, sexy voice of an older man. But the thing is, he is so damn smooth with his voice as well. It is beautiful and a little rough, deep but very warming and cozy. When I hear George Ezra's music, I think of the cozy warmth of a fire place and snuggling up to a guy on a cold winter day. It envelops you in this feeling of home. And I love that so much. It is so hard to find that in artists these days, a time when a lot of music is revolved around electronic work and pop genres. But George Ezra stays in the realm of folk, blues, and some rock. But the thing about George Ezra that makes him so spectacular is his ability to easily switch between a high paced song, to something more mellow and contemplative and calming. George Ezra's deep and smoky voice is perfect for the bellowing notes he needs to hit and for the soothing moments he wants us to feel. There is almost this rustic and weathered sound to his music and it is so funny when it is juxtaposed to how young he is. But that just reaffirms that music has no boundaries.I have to say, the British have really mastered the acoustic thrumming, soul singing nature of music. So many great artists have come a long way in that genre, and they are almost all out of England. But I love that. Somehow I feel like this sound is so descriptive of the English countryside, the wide expanse of grass and fields and trees and flowers, all cast in a slight gloom. There is so much charm and authenticity in George Ezra's music as well. You can tell that songs are simpler in strucutre, but he sings with so much gusto and passion that you can't help but feel that he makes music for the love of music. Something we see a little less of now, but it is a breath of fresh air. This song in particular is possibly my favorite one (it is hard to choose). But this is also the song that I have looped in my head all day. This song makes me feel things that I can't put into words. The musicality of it, it is something to be experienced and not simply heard. When I hear this song, all I can imagine is turning my face towards the wind on a gloomy autumn day, with the world in this grey and white scale with touches of color here and there. This song elicits so many different feelings, ones that you sometimes seem to forget about. And for that, I love George Ezra even more. Today's instrumental song is by a band known as Caspian. Now these guys are solely instrumentalists. And I think it is wonderful that bands like this exist! Caspien lets the music do the singing and talking for them. Songs like these don't require words to explain them. Caspian wants you to understand by feeling and listening and being part of the song. They know how to get you to immerse yourself in the music and feel your way through the notes. Music like this, this is the stuff we live for.
