Flume and Troye Sivan

Today I have some music for you that is a little bit of a mix of things. To be more specific, more of a remix of things. This song is originally by Sam Smith, and artist who is known for this incredible R&B vocals and higher vocal range. However, this remix is done by Flume, one of the EDM and remixing gods. What I love about Flume's work is that he knows how to make a lot happen without making it seem so. There are so many different things happening in this song but you can't tell. He makes everything seem so flawless. From the initial opener to the first minor bass drop, there are so many different things happening! The song starts out very Flume-like, with the lengthened out melodies and harmonies. But then we get to Sam Smith's vocalization and that has a nice synth undertone to prop up his vocals and somehow accentuate them. Then we get our first real bass drop and it is this cool mix of tropical house and trip hop. One of the things that makes Flume stand out to me more than a lot of other EDM artists is the fact that he loves experimenting. I mean every song has his signature sound, that is for sure. But at the same time, each song has something different. Whether it be the mood of the song, the way the beat of the song is done, the type of energy the song has, Flume likes to keep things a little stirred. You can get a general idea of what you will hear but not truly know what you are going to get. And that makes him such a remix god. This song for example, sounds nothing like the original. Most of remixes are a huge step away from what the original sounds like. But at the same time, Flume is able to keep the integrity of the original song by the way he remixes sounds and by the way he is able to seamlessly blend the lyrics in. We always get the same kind of mood as the original, but we get it with Flume's style. I absolutely love him and all of his work. It is so different and uniquely his. Today's instrumental is a song that I am in love with. Troye Sivan is a YouTube personality, but the first I had really heard of him was when I heard this song. There is this incredible chill vibe to the song but it is shrouded in this thin layer of darkness. This song is so well done and I won't lie, it is the kind of song that you could get pretty obsessed with. It has this smoothness to it that fits really well with Troye Sivan's voice. The instrumentals in this song are actually rather simple. But that simplicity makes the song have even more of an impact on your ears. I love the chorus in this song, especially with what is done with the synths. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
