Schiller and The Glitch Mob

Today I have some really amazing music by a German artist by the name Schiller. A friend of mine introduced me to Schiller and I have been binge listening to his music because it is that good. Talk about trance music that really puts you in another state of mind! What Schiller does is absolutely wonderful! Schiller is an artist who likes to throw in a lot of different flairs to an underlying common sound with his music. But that underlying trance is what brings his style to the forefront. Schiller is an artist who likes to create trance music the way it was made at the beginning. His type of trance is what people should think about when thinking about that kind of music. What I like about this though is Schiller is able to add in anything from funk to disco to Europop into his songs and still make them all sound like trance. This is not an easy feat, and it is something I am very impressed with. Schiller also kind of spans the energy spectrum with his music. It is not all laid back trance and it is not all super energetic like club trance music. His music falls somewhere in between to the point where it is relaxing and almost inspiring. His music is the kind of music that gets your brain thinking extremely creatively and more philosophically. Schiller's music is one that creates a collison of classical electronic music and more modern versions of electronic music. But another thing that he adds to the mix is the use of World music. Each song has some aspect of World music, whether it be using cultural instruments or having a melody that is generally placed with a certain part of the world. Granted, a lot of his music sounds like the German underground (which I am so okay with). But, he still brings in a lot of different sounds and even brings in some orchestral work to mix it up even more. Schiller really likes to work with progressive synth grooves from what I can tell. The thing is, he does so with so much skill and authority and experience. There is never really an instant when you think that he is using to much synth and we definitely don't have the problem of overusing the bass either. Schiller presents with this flawless union of classical and electronic music that which don't hear pretty much ever. Now this song in particular takes on more of the ambient side of trance. This is truly one of those songs that makes you feel so good and calm. There is an effortless smoothness to the way the song is produced and a happy marriage between vocal layering and synth work. There are some nicely woven harmonies woven into this song, with the keyboard acting as a kind of percussion. I actually love this technique, using the keyboard to double up as a percussion and accompanying melody. It works really well and you get two birds with one stone. This is an artist who is such a breath of fresh air in a world dominated by heavy bass and intense beats, music that is meant to make people want to go insane. Schiller is an artist that I have only recently heard of and yet I am still hooked on his music. I'll have to thank my friend for this one! Today's instrumental song is by The Glitch Mob. Now I found that there were quite a few similarites between The Glitch Mob and Schiller. While the Schiller is more trance oriented and The Glitch Mob remains a genre of their own, both of these artists love melding classical and electronic music together. And there are no others who can do it the way these guys do. The Glitch Mob focuses on more adagio pieces to use in their music, but the seamless transitions between the orchestral string instruments and the more programmed music is just awe-inspiring. You can never hear a hiccup in the flow of the song, never hear a beat out of place, and never hear a drop in energy. The Glitch Mob is a group that I find highly underrated. I had the privilege of seeing them perform live and was totally blown away. Hearing this music live, right in front of you, well, there is nothing more incredible!
